Question of the Week: Photo Organization

Everyone,

This week’s question at the Multiples and More blog is all about Photo Organization.

How do you store and organize your photos? (Digital, and physical?)

Oh photos. I have thousands upon thousands of them. I typically take about 400 pictures a month. Just of my kids. Gah, that seems terrible. But maybe they will be happy when they are older? And not all of them are keeper pictures either. I put the best ones up here on the blog for you guys to see. Other than that, they tend to get lost in the hard drive that is my computer.

* Do you save only on your computer, or do you use an online photosharing site?
I save them on my computer AND I try to use an online photo sharing site. With Butterfly, I was so great about uploading my pictures every month and sending them out. I don’t do that as much as I would like. Of course, I’m taking tons more pictures than I was with Butterfly so it takes longer to upload them.

After the picture crash of 2009, I am better about backing up my pictures onto an external hard drive. But I need to be even better about it.

* If so, which one do you use? What do you like about it?
I used several different sites. For most things that I share with my family, I use Kodak Gallery. It’s easy to use, has a plug in with iphoto which I use. It’s what I’ve used for years. One thing I don’t like about them is that I have to buy stuff from them in order to keep my pictures there.

For the blog, I use Flickr.

For pictures between Lolli and I, we use SmugMug. I’m really impressed with it!

* Do you have physical albums of your photos, or do they only exist online?
I do have physical albums of pictures. I have all the physical albums of my pictures from high school in my closet. I have several scrap books of our first years of marriage. And several scrapbooks of the first years of us as a family. Butterfly even has a baby book.

* Do you scrapbook?
Yes, I do. Well, I did. Lolli and I used to scrapbook once a week when our kids were babies. But sadly, our time ran away with us. Just tonight I’ve talked another friend into getting together several times until her 3 kids baby books are done, and my 3 kids baby books are mostly done! I am SO excited to get things together again and get the pictures all organized.

This week’s question was a 2 part question…with a game! “And second- let’s play a little game- Since today is 8-1, Go to your eighth album in your “Pictures” files, and post the first picture in it on your blog.”

Butterfly Loves Daddy

This is a picture of Butterfly hugging her Daddy March of 2009.  Love that elbow dimple and how happy she is with him. This was fun!

Pictures

Everyone,

My sister in law just sent me a slew of pictures of her and her 3 kids. And their new house (which looks fabulous!). It made me realize that I haven’t put out my pictures for 2 whole months. Which means that everyone on my list is bound to get over 200 pictures to look at from Sept and Oct. I know my parents won’t mind…but will everyone else? Oh well if they do! Now the trick is to write captions to aforementioned 200 pictures.

This morning, I did my weekly scrap booking with my friend Laura. Butterfly had a great time with her 2 youngest, and I actually finished my Hawaii pictures from over a year ago. There has got to be close to 30 pages of just Hawaii. I am going to have to re-think my yearly scrapbook, since I don’t think I can put any more than 100 pages in it. I guess I’ll just have to split it up or stop starting in August.

Juice has been home sick today again. He shut himself up in the office and worked all day. His cough is doing better. He is also feeling a little happier and is not so morose. And with him home, I got to go out while Butterfly was supposed to be sleeping for her nap and buy myself a new book. Oh, and get Juice’s glasses fixed since they broke for the 5th time this year. Butterfly is hard on those things! Only 2 more months till he can go and pick out new, less fragile glasses.

Scrapbooking

Everyone,

Every week I go over to a friend’s house and we sit and scrapbook. Her little boy is just 8 days younger than Butterfly and they play okay together. Okay enough that we get some stuff done.

Today I finally finished my 2005-2006 scrapbook. Hey, I’m only 2 years behind. I start it every year at our anniversary in August because our wedding is what started me scrapbooking. So technically I’m only 1 book and a few months behind.

This book ended up being 118 pages. It covered from when Butterfly was 3 months old and we took her to Delaware to when she was about 16 months old and walking. I can’t believe how much they change in one year! And thank goodness I’ve been pretty regular about writing in this blog. Otherwise I would have vague memories of things and no details!
