Ren Faire in Words

Everyone,

Now that we’re home and most of the bags are unpacked, let’s talk about the Ren Faire. We had so much fun! It started at 11am so we took our time in the morning and enjoyed cable tv. Well, the kids did. They watched Micky Mouse. We had a good breakfast (provided by the hotel) and packed up the car.

Once we got everyone in their costumes and checked out of the hotel, we spent forever getting across the street. (The hotel we stayed out was across the street from the Ren Faire.) Someone had a poopy diaper, and…and…and… I have no idea why it took us 45 minutes to actually get out.

We walked into the Ren Faire and had a fantastic time. We were there during their Spooktacular weekend so Butterfly, and the boys, got to trick or treat through the stores. That was fun!

The boys were very busy picking up rocks and throwing them. That was HARD to control because they are kind of all over the place all the time. We finally shoved them into the stroller and they screamed because of it. But after hours of trying to keep them in line, screaming was better.

We rode the rides (big swings), which the boys absolutely hated. But Princess Butterfly loved it. We met the Queen of the Faire who LOVED Butterfly’s costume. Juice entered the adult costume contest but didn’t even make the top 5. We looked at the elephant and ate Faire food. Butterfly asked to leave around 4:30 pm and we were ready to go!

The best part about the day was a lady in one of the shops that laughed and laughed and laughed over the fact that The Dread Pirate Roberts and Buttercup got married and had kids!

After we left the Faire, we changed out of our costumes and drove 15 miles to Hershey, PA and Chocolate world! They were also trick or treating there, but we were just there to buy some chocolate and head home. A stop at Sonic for dinner and a nice drive home ended the night.

So happy to be home!

We’re here in Pennsylvania for the 30th anniversary of the PA Renaissance Faire.  Should be fun!  Some highlights from today:

Way Back When-sday: Renn Faire

Everyone,

Playing along with Cheryl at Twinfatuation this week for Way Back When-sday!

Butterfly and Dread Pirate PA Faire

Butterfly and Juice at our last time at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.  We are so excited to go on Friday!  And sleep in a hotel!  Wait…is that something to be excited about with 3 young children?  I hope so!

Look how little Butterfly looks in this picture!  She was only 3…the boys were a few months old (and with us, along with my parents) in 2008 when we went.

And this year, I’ll actually be able to wear MY costume.  Should be fun!

Pennsylvania Ren Faire

Everyone,

We had a great time (as usual) at the Pennsylvania Ren Faire. This was our second year going. There were a few things that we wanted to see from last year, and a few things that we missed last year. I still don’t think we saw everything again this year. We’ll try again next year!

The reason why we started going to the PA Ren Faire and not the Maryland one was that it seemed cleaner. More family friendly. The biggest reason is probably so that Juice can wear his sword. They don’t allow weapons at the MD Faire. Anyway, we like it. And I’m completely bushed so this will be short.

Juice played with Butterfly’s hair, and mine too. We all got dressed up in our costumes. Butterfly was Arwen and got to wear my evenstar necklace. Juice was his Dread Pirate Roberts costume. The boys were little pirates too. And I had a shirt on that said, “Who are you calling a princess?” with a skull and crossbones on it. It was pirate weekend, after all.

My Dad threw some Chinese stars, which he got to do for free because he found a star in the road and took it back to the guy. We waited in a long line at the potty and went to find ourselves some lunch. After lunch, I fed the boys and my mom took Butterfly to the potty again. She was in the stall and started to cry. She did not want to go without me. Ugh. Please someone tell me the whole can’t-potty-unless-you-are-there phase will go quickly. I’m so tired of it.

I had just sat down to finish my lunch when my mom called so I had to go help Butterfly and then go finish. By this time, the boys had had it. They had not had really good naps in a few days and they were not happy little boys. We walked towards the “flying chicken”, otherwise known as the hippogriff swing. Juice and Butterfly took a ride. I tried to feed the boys again and listened to them cough horribly. Guess who caught colds? Me, and them, and Butterfly. I imagine Juice will probably not be far off.

My dad and Juice fought in the the fencing ring. They pad you up really well, give you a sword and some balloons connected to you and let you whack each other until the balloons are popped. My dad won. They had so much fun and came back to us all smiles.

We then had to go to the potty AGAIN, and this time Butterfly refused to go at all. So I thought I would go. Well she was mad and didn’t want me (“Daaaaddyyyyy! I want Daaaaaaddyyyyy!”) and opened the door to run out while I was still indisposed. I was NOT happy with her and after I got her back in, got myself put back together I marched her right out to her daddy who she immediately didn’t want. Of course. ARG!

We wandered around to look at the shops but they are hard to go into with our big stroller. By this time I had Pirate strapped to me and Professor was whining in the stroller. Butterfly’s head kept falling over so she sat in Pirate’s seat and fell asleep. All day long we had been doing a scavenger hunt and we didn’t want her to miss getting her prize that she worked for. So Juice stood in line with her asleep in the stroller. She got a skull necklace. I fed the boys again and we decided we were done.

We spent all day at the Faire and had a great time! The queen blew the kids all a kiss and Butterfly got several trinkets. We were beat by the end of the day and came back to the hotel early for bed.

We love the Ren Faire!

Hey, I do have readers!

Everyone,

I’m so happy that you guys all left comments on delurk day. Thanks!

Things have been busy here. Mostly, I have been busily planting my ‘bee hiney’ (as Butterfly says) on the couch. I am sick with a horrible cough and my chest is on fire. Butterfly luckily hasn’t come down with it. She woke up with a fever this morning but is fine now. I hope she doesn’t get it because man, this sucks!

Of course, my parents are coming to stay for a week on Saturday and I have to get sick. Mom, Dad, sorry but the house is going to be a wreck when you come. I’m sure you will understand. We (meaning Juice and his great arms and organizational skills) will at least have all the boxes from the attic out of the room you are staying in. Probably.

It’s nice to have family visit. Especially when I don’t get to see really anyone else. That’s the danger of living 3000 miles away. I miss all the fun stuff. But I also miss most of the not so fun stuff as well. So it’s okay.

It has been over 90 degrees all weekend long. Gah, where is fall?! The humidity has been awful. We had to turn our air conditioner back on. The leaves are just drooping and browning. I doubt we’ll see any great color this year. They say a cold front is pushing it’s way through and should be here by Friday. We will see. Until then, I am HOT!

Let’s see, all of my pictures are still on my camera. But just a mention that the PA renn faire was AWESOME. So much better and more family friendly than the MD one. We plan on returning next year and staying for 2 nights instead of one. We had a great time!

Butterfly is insisting I lay down on the couch because “you have a bad code!” So I’m off. More hopefully later!

Feeling Busy

Everyone,

On my google home page, I have a big to do list right in the center so I see it every time I get on the computer. It helps me focus on what I actually need to to, instead of being sucked into google reader or my email. Every day this week I have had at least 6 things on it, 7 being the max amount of things you can put on there. Okay, a lot of things are rolled over things from the day before that I didn’t get to. Because you can only do so much with a 2 year old in the house. Especially one that says to you, “Mommy, let’s play with my toys! You are my favorite person to play with!” (I think she says that because I’m the only one around. When Juice is there, I can’t even touch the toys without being yelled at.)

Today’s list involves folding and putting away clean laundry (left over from yesterday), talking to the roof guy (roof day is Tuesday next week! Stay tuned for pictures.), paying bills, going to the grocery store, getting gas, packing for the PA renn faire tomorrow. Yes, we are leaving tomorrow for a night in PA and the renn faire there. We went to the renn faire here (another post, another day) and it was okay. There is just so much smoking there!

But none of these things are getting done because I’m trying to type and juggle being ‘mommy horsey’ with Butterfly’s little people. And the couch is calling. Can I just go lay down for awhile and maybe my double will get everything done. That would be great!

Okay, March? Where did Feb go?

Everyone,

I didn’t realize how long it has been since I’ve posted. We’ve been keeping really busy and I’ve been really tired so my normal posting time (before bed) gets cut out. And tonight will be short. Here are some highlights:

Juice finally beat, as in fought the last battle, his game he’s had for 2 years. Wow, is all I can say. Does he know how to make things last or what?

My brother, MusicMan, celebrated a birthday last Friday. We had a nice chat and his wife surprised him which was great. You can read more here.

Butterfly is doing well. She is eating us out of jelly, bread, and peanut butter. That girl can put away food! And oh the diapers…

Me, I’ve been enjoying my latest duds.

I am so excited for this year’s renn faire now that we all can go dressed up. I got this dress custom made from HERE. The owner is a good friend of Juice’s from college. She did a great job!

I will be busy this week as my parents are coming for a week starting on Thursday. We’ve got a full week scheduled and I’m really looking forward to seeing them. And going on a date with Juice before baby bedtime. And watching girly movies with my mom. Should be fun!

Until next time,

Photo Friday

Everyone,

Since Butterfly is taking her afternoon nap, I thought it might be fun to share a couple of pictures.

I was trying to get a picture of this outfit that my mom sent her. The only way she would be far enough away from the camera was if I asked her to show Nana the penny she has in her hand. Apparently, my mom lives in the camera because she immediately backed up and held up her hand. She then said, “I have shiny penny. I like penny.”
Last weekend we went to a national park to hike. I bought the national park passport while we were in Assateague. I have been dragging Juice and Butterfly all over the area to one of the 96 national parks (including at least 35 down town). I still have about 10 more to get down town, and about 50 more in the area. One at a time, one at a time. Last weekend was a trip to Greenbelt park. We took a lovely mile long hike, where Butterfly insisted that she walk Soot most of the way. We also had a picnic and saw a lot of trees. We had a great time.
Juice decided to put on his renn faire costume for no apparent reason. That warranted a picture. Drop. Your. Sword. Doesn’t he look dashing? The sword, the gloves, and the mask are new additions since Christmas.
