Kiddo Sayings

Everyone,

Professor hit Pirate over the head with a bird flashlight today.  They had been fighting over it and Professor didn’t want to give it up once he got it.  Screaming ensued.

Professor got put in time out.  And Pirate was sitting in Daddy’s getting consoled by Daddy and Sister.  Sister was rubbing his back and crooned:

“Don’t cry Pirate.  I love you more than Professor and Mommy ever could.”

—————–

Not only do I have to figure out toddler-ease that these two boys are speaking to me and each other (they always understand each other…I get it on maybe the 3rd try), but now I have to figure out what the myriad of animal sounds they make mean.  Because yes, they each mean something different!

Meow: I’m hungry or I want that.

Ruff:  Yes!  or I’m hungry or I’m playing a puppy.

Ba-aa: I’m happy or This tastes good or I love you.

Moooo: I want more.  (This one I do kind of understand…probably because they are the same beginning sounds?)

Neigh:  Haven’t figured this one out yet.

Rawr: Not sure about this one either.

—————–

Every time Professor roars at me he pauses, says very seriously, “I dragon.”

“Are you a dragon buddy?”

“Yeah, I dragon.  I fire.  I read book.”  And then he runs off (as only little kids can run) and grabs a book.  He then sits down and roars while he turns the pages.  It’s hysterical.

Why does he do this?  We have a picture that Juice has had since high school hanging in our stairwell.  It’s a dragon reading a in a huge stack of books.  Professor always points it out every time we pass it (which is often) and now he’s convinced that’s what dragons do.  Well, besides breathing fire.

Somehow I don’t have the heart to tell him that books and fire don’t mix!

Outside!

Everyone,

The past few days have been absolutely beautiful outside. We’ve been spending as much of our days outside as we possibly can. I know the heat and humidity is going to show up. So we may as well play while we can!

The kids love it. They all have that sun kissed look and are sleeping like rocks through the night. We have been using those bubbles, the sidewalk chalk and exploring the beautiful spring items that come clutched in little kid paws. It’s also opened up a huge rush of vocabulary for Professor.

Flower!
Bee!
Leaf!
Airplane!
Rock!
Throw!
Turn!
Water!
Bike!

The boys get into a lot less trouble outside. They throw rocks in the road. They follow each other around and say “Weee!” They bring me little treasures. They sit next to me on the step and do everything that I do. It’s very cute.

Butterfly is wrapped up in her own little world and makes up elaborate games inside her head. Today she was Bolt and drug poor Soot around. She also made Soot sick, tried to give her medicine of grass and twigs, tried to do Soot’s hair with flowers, had Soot stand in the ‘snow’ and pretended that Soot was cold. I love having a dog for her.

Pirate is my instigator and loves to go out into the road, try to throw rocks at my car, and wants to jump off the steps. He also wants to pick all my flowers and do whatever Butterfly is doing. Busy boy!

Sometimes I take my computer out with me. Sometimes I just sit and watch them play and be amazed by them. Sometimes I carry them inside kicking and screaming because it’s nap time.

Today, we went out right after breakfast, came inside for a drink, went back out, had lunch outside, came in screaming for naps, and went back out after dinner for a walk with Daddy. I’d say that’s 80% of the day outside. I hope to continue to do that with them all week long.

Bigger is Not Always Better

Everyone,

Before we had kids and we had money to spend on frivolous things for each other, I bought Juice a mechanical dinosaur. A raptor. It’s interactive. When you turn it on, it growls, sniffs around and can follow things. (No picture because it’s way late (again!) and I don’t want to find it/take a picture of it.)

Soot (our dog) thought it was a being of great evil descended on our household. She barked loudly at it but also ran from it a great deal. We named it Bunny.

It also came with a tiny version of itself that walked. It was Juice’s toy for a long time, but then it somehow became the kids’ toy. The dinosaur, which Butterfly named Bob, is very sought after in my house. Professor really loves it and calls it a “rarrr”.

The other day, Juice decided to bring down Bunny to show the boys. They had never seen the big one before. Professor had been hauling around his “rarrr” for a few days at that point. When Juice showed him Bunny, he threw down Bob with a resounding thud.

You could just see him look at the one in his arms, and say, “Yours is bigger! I’ll take it!”

Then Juice flipped the switch and Bunny roared. Poor Professor ran sobbing from the room and won’t go near Bunny now. (He still loves the little dinosaur.) Bunny is on the top shelf in our closet and he will go over to the closet and point and talk about the big one. But don’t take it down! He likes to look at it from a distance.

Pirate thinks Bunny is great. We had to tell him that Bunny was tired and needed sleep or he would play with him all day. Pirate has also made up his own sign for sleep because of this conversation that I have repeated at least 30 times. He lays his head over to the side and sighs really big. Yes, sleep!

Speaking of signs, Pirate says very few words still. He signs A LOT though. And most of them he’s thought up himself. Other signs he knows the “proper” way of doing is eat, drink, cereal, more, all done, milk, car, mommy, daddy, baby. It’s amazing what you can say in a day with those 10 signs.

Better…

Everyone,

Today was a better day. Not a great day, just better than the past ones have been. Juice came home early as he often does on Fridays. He was able to cheer us up before naps. The boys were pretty miserable off and on today. Mostly it’s been Pirate who has been screaming today so that’s been a change. I think they both have a miserable cold.

Nuts. I hate it when the kids are sick.

While the boys napped and Butterfly played on the Wii, I just chilled out. Juice was in charge of the kids and I did nothing but poke around on the Internet and wonder why it takes me two tries every time to log into twitter.

Once the boys were up I got out my amazing steam cleaner and cleaned my kitchen. I steamed out my microwave…awesome. I steamed my counters, my sink faucets, the screen above the stove, and the floors. In half an hour. Seriously in love with the Oreck.

Juice picked up all the toys (and there were MANY) and vacuumed the house. I feel so much better with the house picked up and everything tidy.

Everyone went to bed early and Juice and I had a nice date on the couch watching a movie about John Keats. Okay, I had a nice time. I think he tolerated the movie for my sake. He’s so nice.

We’re off on an adventure tomorrow. We decided this after both the boys were hugging their coats and hanging on the door crying. Poor little Professor kept saying, “Ouuu? Ouuu? Ouuu?” Hopefully we won’t freeze to death while being ‘ouuu’.

Day 30…End of NaBloPoMo!

Everyone,

So how did everyone like my 30 days of posting? Do remember that I challenged myself to write every day of December too so you won’t stop hearing from me yet!

Juice is in Chicago this week for his annual trip for some trade show. I get to get take out for a week while he’s gone. Tonight was Mexican food. Yum! Of course, I seemed to be the only one that ate it…the boys and Butterfly only ate apple sauce and then threw the rest around the kitchen. Not my idea of fun!

I ran about 10 errands today. Some early in the morning after I dropped Juice off at the train station. Some during Butterfly’s dance class. Some even after! It just seemed like I had a ton of little tiny things to do. Things that would have been easier without 3 little tag-a-longs. But we made it work. With a lot of bribing. My kids LOVE chocolate. I can get them to do anything with a promise of that stuff. Professor even knows how to say it.

Speaking of Professor, he is my little talker! He says several things now.
Shoes
Cracker
Mama
Chocolate
What’s that?
Noodles
Socks
Snowman
Tree
Lights
Pretty
Dog
Woof
Kitty
Meow
Roar
oh no!
No
Block
Baby

Pirate, on the other hand, is still stuck with “uh-oh”. He does now say, “uh-uh” when he wants to say no. But other than the few times he’s said Daddy, nothing else. I think we always knew at first that Professor would be the talker and Pirate the thinker. For a long time I wondered if I had named them correctly. I wonder if other mothers of twins worry about that. Sometimes I think of how their lives might be different with different names. I don’t regret the names they got, it’s just something I think about.
