Everyone,
After 4 years, some things never change.

Ahhh…Professor crying and Pirate looking un-bothered by the whole thing.
First there was THIS:

Now there is THIS:

Man I am SO lucky.

PS- For those interested parties, 4 year old stats on the boys.
Pirate: 47 inches tall, 48 lbs. 120th percentile for height and weight. He is as big as a 5 year old.
Professor: 41 inches tall, 33 3/4 lbs. 50th percentile for height and weight. He is now average instead of a tiny peanut. Way to go!

Everyone,
Yesterday, out of the blue, Professor declared it was time for underwear. Batman underwear. He declared it was time for peanut butter M&Ms and Batman toys.
Yes, that’s right. It’s time to start potty training.
I did a lot of deep breathing yesterday. I did a lot of sitting next to the toilet, and a lot of cheering.
He had zero accidents yesterday.
None.
Zip.
And he even went #2 with no fuss.
I told him that he couldn’t wear his Batman underwear if he messed it. And he didn’t.
Today, he had one big accident in the morning. Then we went out to their new little school. And to the grocery store. Halfway through the grocery store, he declared that he had to go. And he did. (Shout out to very clean bathrooms at Trader Joes!) And his diaper was dry.
I am excited to not buy diapers anymore, but I really don’t like the first few months of potty training. It’s stressful. It’s kind of scary.

But I have never seen Batman look so cute.

Everyone,
We made it back to Maryland safe and sound. It was a long 4 days in the road. But I’m so proud of us because we fit 6 people and our stuff into Fern Tree the van. Oh, and a dog and her stuff too. Which was bulky. Next time I’m taking the travel dog crate that is soft. If there is a next time that is.
I’m trying to get back into the habit of blogging every day so you’ll have to forgive me if these posts are a little sparse/travel log-ish for awhile.
Yesterday I took my dad to the airport and got my car fixed. It squealed almost the whole way home. Apparently the new belt I had put in it before we left had bad tension and it broke one of the pullies. We also went to the library and signed everyone, including Flower, for the summer reading program.
Can I just say I love having Flower with us? Seriously, I need a nice helpful 15 year old of my own.
Juice and I were able to go out on a date last night (to Target for soap and m&ms and then to my friend’s house to fix her computer) and it was fun just to be us. We didn’t have to worry about getting anyone out of the car or herd people around the store. It was nice. So yay for Flower and all her help!
Today we met up with a lot of other Maryland mommy bloggers in a park about 40 minutes from here. My friend Lolli and her son AJ came along. It was fun to see everyone in person, although I don’t know if any of them read this. Mostly Lolli knows them. It was nice to have some adult conversation and Butterfly played really well at the park.
Professor has decided that he can take 4-6 steps in a row! Both the boys had their first steps in Utah but just today Professor is starting to walk more and more. It’s only a matter of time before he’s off running!
See ya tomorrow!

Everyone,
Another short update from me today. Professor spent another night in my arms, roasting he was so hot. I watched 2 movies last night (The Importance of Being Earnest and The Man From Snowy River) and watched the clock tick slowly by.
4am rolled around and I could finally move without him clinging to me and crying. Bed time!
Juice couldn’t stay home this morning due to some work meeting (how inconsiderate of them!) so I dealt with my 2 hours of sleep and even took the kids to the resource center.
Professor actually got down and played. I was amazed.
After his nap (at least he is napping…I should have. Stupid phone.), I basically froze us out. I opened all the windows for some cool fresh air. Even then I could tell when Professor came near me because he was so dang hot. A call to the doctor (they can’t do anything) and a wonderful friend bringing juice (hey look the boys can drink out of straws!) and his fever broke. He was happy, pleasant and smiling all through dinner for Daddy. Grr…
I put Butterfly to bed early too because I was cross and Juice is gone on a service project.
Now, bedtime!

Everyone,
I was thinking about it and I have not driven my car all week long. Nope, I lied. I went to the Metro on Monday morning and the Chinese Food store (what Butterfly calls it) that evening. But yeah, I haven’t driven the car in 4 days at least. And since Juice has been riding the Metro and taking the bus every day, we’re saving money! And gas! And the environment! Yay for us!
Then why do I feel like a hermit these days? Oh, yeah. Right. Freezing cold temps, twins, a pre-schooler, and no motivation. My get up and go is on the fritz right now. I think I used it all up on the Inauguration. (I just love typing that word now that I know how to spell it.) It could also be that my shirt (and hair sometimes) is covered in snot from two runny little noses. Or it could be because I’ve been spit up on more times than I can count this morning so now I have a slightly foul smell following me around.
But I did get a shower today so that’s a win. Well, I was clean before the spit up and the snot.
I am going to drive the car this evening to get out so that’s also a win. Maybe after I change my clothes…
I spent an exhilarating night last night talking to my mom on the phone. We are busy planning their semi-annual trip to visit us. Highlights this year will include sleeping on the Ellipse in front of the White House for Easter Egg roll tickets, the zoo, Mt. Vernon, Easter Sunday, and the boys’ first birthday. We are going to have a ball, as we always do.
Juice is going hiking with the Boy Scouts tomorrow so I am on my own yet again. I think I may take the kids to the mall and do some window shopping and have a little lunch. That is, if I can shut my brain off from planning planning planning tonight in bed.
Maybe that’s where all my get up and go is. The future!

PS- Professor has learned how to clap and it’s so adorable! And Pirate will come and lay his head on my foot and suck his thumb. Also adorable!

Everyone,
This
is what I see every day now when I get the boys up from any kind of sleeping. Professor has learned to pull up on things and boy does he ever! And he loves to stand. Any way he can get closer to Pirate and play with him is good.
This is a slight problem though. Why you ask? Not because we need to put his crib mattress down and haven’t yet (bad parents) but because he hasn’t learned to sit down. So he gets himself stuck like this every time he pulls himself up. His little legs are shaking sometimes when I get to him they are so tired. Poor little guy. I remember Butterfly going through this as well. Nothing to be done but to let them pull up and learn to sit back down.
For the past three days, I’ve had to go rescue him at nap time. “Huma! Huma!” (This is what he calls me.) And he’s right by the door and just ready to be picked up. So I’ve had to rock him till he’s drowsy, and then put him down. Well, Pirate is right there too and I wake him up rocking sometimes and he’s very unhappy that I’m not holding him. (Although we do have some great peek-a-boo games because I get close then far. Then close, then far. He loves it.)

The picture of Pirate is just too cute not to post.

PS- I think the boys are finally over RSV. Both have been sleeping through the night (BOTH! for 2 whole days!) I haven’t had to wipe one nose in 2 days. So I’m saying we’re free from contaminating people and we can go back to our regularly scheduled programing. Thank goodness. I am so tired of being at home.

Everyone,
My friend Lolli had this up on her blog and I thought I’d steal it from her. Here is 2008 in review, best and worst things!
WORST:
Juice: He lost one of his favorite gloves in the airport. (Boy, a very good year for him if that’s the worst we can think of!)
Me: Gestational Diabetes, giving birth twice with a bad epidural, preeclampsia, bed rest
Butterfly: Two new baby brothers and having to learn to share parents/toys
Pirate: RSV (Juice says that being evicted from the warm comfy place aka my uterus is worse)
Professor: RSV
BEST:
Juice: Having the boys!
Me: Two healthy baby boys! Being able to breastfeed them, being able to stay home with everyone, lots of visitors this summer and a very long trip to Utah
Butterfly: Turning 3, and Christmas with 3 times the toys and boys who don’t mind if she plays with them
Pirate: Big Sister
Professor: learning to crawl
I’ve been reading through my blog this past year and it’s been fun to see things change. We had a huge shift in our family when the boys were born. Having them and Butterfly have been amazing. I can’t imagine it any other way. Here’s hoping we have another good year!

PS- I forgot to put the boys on the list. Oops! At least I remembered before I published it.
PPS- Professor has learned to pull up on things! He was standing in his crib today. Very first time!

Everyone,
I almost forgot to blog today day. (Or tonight as Butterfly would say. Every time the sun goes down it has to be to NIGHT because it is night. Of course.)
Anyway, Juice and I have been rocking out these past two nights. Last night till almost midnight and tonight a little earlier. We are tired. But we are having so much fun! I seriously can’t wait to have my friends over to play rock band. It is it either addictive and fun or boring and no big deal. I remember reading on several different blogs who had Wii parties that they lurved guitar hero. And now I see why. This is so so much fun.
Today I went to the big red store for some alone time and got us a few essentials like diapers. Man we go through a lot of diapers. And cereal. I am asking Juice to make waffles tomorrow morning because we (him) eat a lot of cereal a day and maybe if we have some waffles he won’t eat the cereal gone in two days. Maybe.
I spent a lot time talking to my Dad about my up coming trip to Utah. Yes, we are coming back to Utah in the summer. No details yet, but Dad and I are working them out.
I also talked to my bro and hooked up our Wiis. Now we have their little Mii family wandering around our Wii. So fun!
My arms are tired. I’m getting a blister on my finger from the drum sticks and how I hold them.
Pirate has a pretty bad cold. He is very miserable today. I spent a lot of time holding him and listening to him moan. After his 4 hour nap this afternoon, he perked up some. Enough to eat something (and pull a lot of faces) and go right back into bed. I think Professor has it too since he was pretty low key today. For him, that means he got into Butterfly’s toys at least 5 times instead of 15, chase the dog only once, and pulled himself up onto his feet two times. That’s a new one for him! He is going to be my sweet active into everything climber.
Butterfly has been extra whiny and tired lately too. I wonder if she is getting another cold on top of the one she currently has. I guess this serves us right for actually being really healthy until now this winter. Oh well.
K, back to rock band. No, bed…need to go to bed!

Everyone,
I have done SO much today. It’s amazing what a day at home will do for you and the state of your house. Here’s what I did:
-tried (and failed) to convince Butterfly that it was still night time at 7am
-washed all of Butterfly’s sheets again, several accidents happened today
-washed the boys sheets
-finished up my laundry
-declared myself done with my Christmas cards, finished address and stamping the last of them
-swept (twice, once before Butterfly and once after)
-mopped (amazing!)
-moved all random boxes/stuff upstairs in preparation for book club tomorrow
-payed all bills
-cleaned off table, counters, other table
-cleaned downstairs bathroom
-got all visiting teaching appointments together
-visited with friends
-made an awesome dinner
-ate way too many sugar cookies
-admired Professor’s ability to almost sit up by himself
-played several games with Butterfly on the computer
-made Pirate laugh so hard he cried (not hard to do, that is one smiley kid)
Yeah, that’s it. It was a very full and fulfilling day. The boys were great at playing or napping today, and Butterfly even took a 2 hour nap. Juice helped a ton when he got home and put all the kids to bed and made all of their beds and did the dishes and cleaned the counters and the high chairs. I’m feeling all jazzed that I did all this stuff and could probably clean all night long if I wanted to. But I know I am tired and really need to get to bed because those boys will be up around 2am. And then 4am. And then 6:30am or so.
