Everyone,
So yes, I know it’s Christmas Eve. I probably should write something nice about the season or reflect on something, but it just ain’t happening today. What a day we’ve had.
And it centers mostly around this little cutie pie. My Pirate.
What a crazy day it’s been for him. Let’s talk about something that doesn’t impact anyone else but him. Remember a while back when I said that he will have surgery? As of today, it’s all scheduled for March. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about it again until then.
He was full of vim and vigor this morning and it’s cute when I’m rested. Not so cute later in the day. By the time we got the kids in bed for naps, it was almost an hour after normal nap time. (We have been cleaning and running a few errands.) Juice and I started into cleaning without the kids around. About half an hour into nap, I noticed that Professor was still crying. That was odd for him. So Juice went up to see if he threw his binky over board and noticed that the kids’ room door was open. So was our room where Butterfly was supposed to be watching a movie. The tv was off and he could hear music. So he poked his head in the room and found Butterfly and Pirate playing with my CD player (something they are NOT allowed to do after loosing a CD).
Wait, did I just say that Pirate was in my room when he’s supposed to be in his room sleeping? In his crib? Yeah, guess who learned how to climb out of his crib? And open doors?
We moved a few boxes away from next to his crib and put him back in there. We left to screaming boys. About 2 minutes later, I hear the CD player in their room being turned on. Pirate! This time Juice stayed in the room with them to see how he was getting out of his crib. Juice moved the crib away from the wall Pirate was using to push himself up and hopefully that will stop him for a little bit. I imagine a crib tent is in our future.
Because of all these shenanigans, they only napped for about an hour and were super cross after.
Tonight was bath night so they would be nice and clean for tomorrow. It was going along just fine until I noticed that Pirate was awfully still. Oh no! Poop in the bath tub. So I yank the boys out, yank the toys out, and send them into our bathroom to get washed there. Pirate pooped on the bath mat as I’m pulling all the toys out. As I’m washing down the tub, Juice comes in to inform me that he did it again in the other tub. Yuck.
He didn’t get a chance to wash them yet either. So back into their tub to be washed. This time, the water is cold and they shiver through the whole thing. Poor things.
They at least went to bed nicely. There has been no climbing, no screaming, and no playing.
In this whole thing, I feel the worst for Professor. Poor thing had to have a short nap, a cold bath, and I even lost one of his stocking stuffers. I hope it’s still in the closet I had all the wrapped presents stacked in. If not, I guess I’ll just have to find him another one after Christmas. He’s little enough he won’t notice, right?!
Ugh, what a day!

Everyone,
About a week ago (I believe on the day of the Inauguration), Juice and I were laying in bed in the morning with Pirate who had just woken up. It was a rare moment between just the 3 of us. We don’t often get to be mommy, daddy, and one baby. It was fun to see him sparkle with all of the attention.
We were playing peek a boo and he was giggling up a storm. His mouth was a wide open grin, legs were kicking like he always does when he’s happy or pleased with something, and we were all giggling. Juice flipped the sheet over his face, and pulled it down. “Peek-a-boo!”
Pirate laughed so hard. And then, he said, “Peek-a-boo!”
No joke.
Juice and I looked at each other in amazement. “Did I hear what I think I just heard?” he asked.
“If you just heard him say peek-a-boo, then yes!” I answered.
I was telling my mom this story the next day and she laughed. Apparently, when she was 9 months old, her grandfather was playing peek-a-boo with her too. He was reading his newspaper. He would look over the edge, and say, “I see!” Apparently my mom and my great-grandfather were having a great time with it, just as we were with Pirate. She piped up and said, “I see!” right back to my great-grandfather.
Pirate is following in his family’s footsteps.

Everyone,
Juice and I had decided we were going to go to the DC Temple tonight and see the Christmas lights. It’s something we did for Butterfly’s first Christmas and I’d like to repeat that for the boys. We have a picture of Butterfly all decked out in her snow suit sitting on a huge pile of snow with the lights in the background. I’d like a similar one for the boys, although probably without the snow this year.
Anyway, Butterfly was exceptionally petulant this morning. She kept moaning that she was tired and she even looked it. She has been eating me out of house and home lately so I thought she was growing and just tired. She insisted on going to the mall today. So we ran over there for some lunch and a chance to play on the cool light game. (See it here.) We had lunch and she barely ate anything but drank all of her lemonade. I noticed her lagging more and more as she was playing the game so I hauled her home. She ate some of her lunch in the car and most of it at home while I put the boys down. She went into her bed for nap with no fuss looking even more tired.
About 10 minutes later, I heard coughing and “Mommy!” Uh oh. She had thrown up all over her bed (that I had just made) and was continuing to throw up when I got there. I figured damage done, let her finish and put her in the bathroom. A drink, a little more, some clean clothes and blankets and she was back in bed. With a bowl this time. I rinsed out her sheets, threw them in the wash and went up to get the boys who were crying. I fed them, got them changed, and got Butterfly up from her nap since she was not sleeping.
I let her watch Beauty and the Beast for the first time since I figured we were not going anywhere. She loved it. The boys played on the floor and with me for awhile.
Pirate is moving forward! He has been rocking on his hands and legs for a long time, whining that he can’t go anywhere. Well now he does! He does not army crawl. He gets up on his hands and knees, rocks his back legs up to his hands, and then puts his hands forward. He looks like a little frog jumping from place to place. He is MUCH happier now, and is able to follow Professor towards the kitchen. Now they both try to chase me around the house. This is going to get fun really fast.
Another word about Pirate. He sobs whenever I leave the room. Absolutely breaks down with a huge sad face and big wet tears. It’s heart breaking. Professor does this too but only if he’s hungry or wants to be held. Pirate does it every time he notices me move from place to place. He also gives hugs when you pick him up. He grabs your arm in one arm, your neck in the other, and cements his body into yours for a moment. Then he looks at you smiling. So sweet. Professor is also hugging but will put his head on your chest, and then look up at you smiling. So sweet!
Butterfly had an exciting dinner of banana, bread, ginger ale and water. Oh, and a Popsicle for sick kids that has been in our freezer at least 18 months. She seemed to like it. She also asked for a bite of Juice’s banger (we had bangers and mash for dinner, basically sausage and mashed potatoes with gravy) and no other instances of tummy trouble. She has a low fever this evening, and 2 very very bright red cheeks. She went to bed early and was asleep almost instantly after her story. The boys are fine. They had butternut squash and cereal for dinner tonight and went right to bed as well.
Juice and I took the time we have with an unexpected free evening to clean out the toys and do the semi annual toy removal. We have half a trash bag full of toys to toss. Broken toys, annoying toys, toys with batteries that have ran down and can’t be replaced easily, fast food toys that are stupid. We also have a big bin of toys to be put away for another day. We will put those in the attic with the other toys that came out of the rotation. Some of those toys are getting out for the boys’ Christmas.
I feel okay and Juice does fine. We are both pretty tired (up late last night talking about high school and people we knew. Hi people! We were thinking of you!) and I feel a little off but nothing huge. I really hope that this goes by fast since I have my book club meeting here this week and I don’t want to miss it and have to change it!
So. I’ve had one busy day. I hope tomorrow is less exciting. We plan on doing nothing.

Everyone,
Yesterday I got two very small half smiles from Pirate. You could tell he was thinking about it both times. Today, he gave me a HUGE toothless grin! He looked so happy and pleased to see me. Wow, it’s amazing how much these smiles make everything worth it. They can’t come at a more needed time!
Professor gave a small half smile to Juice yesterday too so we’re hopeful that the smiley phase is coming for both of them. It’s my favorite stage. I love these little smiles.
Juice played hooky today and we all went to the recourse center and showed Daddy around. We did a craft, enjoyed circle time, and played with dolls. Well, Juice did all of that with Butterfly, I sat and talked to my friend Laura while the boys slept. A fun morning!
We then stopped by a fast food place for lunch (why not make a day of it?) and as we were leaving, we saw a semi hit a bright yellow convertible in the intersection. The convertible was going very fast, and I think the semi thought the convertible was not going to go through the light so he started to go. They met right in the middle. The yellow convertible spun around, hit a van right behind the semi’s trailer, and skidded to a stop. Ouch. And who should step out of the convertible but a cop in all her gear. Ooohhh…not good for the semi driver.
We are getting ready for the boys’ blessing this weekend. I will be making the great chicken salad tomorrow, and we have a bunch of tables and chairs being delivered so we can have ourselves some food outside. I love having spring babies so we can have all their parties outside. It also helps that we are right next to a park! I’m excited to see these guys in their blessing outfits. And of course, pictures will be coming!
