Maybe More Sleep?

Everyone,

Last night I was up way too late and had to deal with the screaming yet AGAIN this morning. Plus Butterfly got up at around 3am to go potty (yay for waking up!) but fell asleep on the toilet. I woke up when she got in there, and wondered what in the world she was doing in there! Go in to find her all slumped over and asleep. At least she made it to the toilet on time. No picture because I had had about an hour and a half of sleep by that point. Tired.

I got too little sleep to handle screaming well.

Juice (who also stayed up playing his weekly online game fix) wasn’t handling it very well either. We started talking about taking Professor to the doctor and I didn’t want to go. But Juice said to just go and get milk at the store next to the doctor’s office. Fine.

Guess what? Nothing is wrong. Yeah. Oh, and I also got yelled at by the doctor for giving him a goldfish before she came in the door. This was after the nurses came in to see why he was screaming and urged me to give him a gold fish. I’m not liking them right now. (But I do love my new insurance…no copay!)

After a negative swab for strep, RSV, and the flu, we headed out to the store for milk. And then I got myself some fast food breakfast because I love that stuff and I never am out in time to get it.

The boys napped well after a big lunch and Butterfly fell asleep too. I attempted to get things picked up around the house and failed miserably. I fell asleep on my bed with Butterfly but only slept for a few minutes when the boys woke up. And Professor screamed until Juice got home.

Luckily, Professor was happy to eat dinner (pasta with goat cheese sauce, all the kids loved it) and is now tucked away into his bed.

I intend to go to my bed as soon as I’m done with this. Maybe that will fix the horrible funk we all seem to be in lately.

What to Do?

Everyone,

Today Pirate had a rough time napping. I would hear him talking, then crying, then muffled crying (with his fingers in his mouth I’m assuming) and then silence. Then it would start all over again. I chalked it up to the fact that he is missing his blanket. It was in the wash. This is a blanket that his Auntie Lisa made him. I have a great picture of her with the blanket but it’s lost in The Great Photo Disaster of 2009.

Both Butterfly and Professor also have blankets made by Auntie Lisa (who actually happens to be MY aunt, so the kids’ great aunt) and they love them. Butterfly and Pirate especially. The blankets were hanging around my kitchen tonight to dry and Butterfly said, “That’s my favorite blanket. The one I got in Utah. I really like that blanket. *sigh* It needs to be washed.” Then she walked away dejected. I have tried for 3 days to wash these blankets. Every time I put them on the floor, I find them back in their beds courtesy of Pirate. Today he was laying on his blanket in the middle of the floor sucking his thumb and crying every time I tried to move him off of it. Then he sat next to the washer once it was in there. Tonight he kept pointing at the drying blanket and trying to take it up to his bed. Then when I put him in the bed, he kept pointing at his mattress and saying “uh-oh! uh-oh!” Poor kid.

Anyway, back to nap time. I chalked up his lack of sleeping to his blanket. But he shoved his hand in my face after nap and said, “uh-oh!” So I looked it over to see what he wanted. Did I mention that he sucks his thumb? A lot?

When I got to looking over his thumb it was all cracked and very tender. Poor kid!

Do you know anything I can do for a chapped thumb on a thumb sucker?

I don’t want to put moisturizer on it because he puts it in his mouth. I don’t want him to ingest anything bad. I don’t want to stop him from sucking. But it looks painful. I don’t want it to crack open and bleed. Maybe some oil or something?

What to Say…

Everyone,

Normal craziness was had by all today. We went to the PRC and Butterfly fell in the mud running to the door. That girl has some serious enthusiasm. It’s great! The boys painted for the first time and wiped their paint covered hands on their clothes because they REFUSED to wear smocks. Luckily the paint came out. The mud, not yet.

They all took a 4 hour nap today (I know!) and I took an hour one. I vacuumed, did laundry, finished a library book, earned a few swagbucks. (BTW, I have earned enough for yet another amazon gift card. That makes $20 I’ve earned this month alone. Sign up, you won’t be sorry!)

Juice came home, we had dinner (which I almost burned but saved just in time) and we played. The boys have discovered that Daddy makes a good horse and Mommy also makes one. They went around tonight pushing us over so they could climb on our backs. Man they are cute!

Butterfly almost has her talk memorized for Sunday and I’m really excited to see how she does with it. We also have a visiting young women’s leader on Sunday. All the young women will be attending for 2nd and 3rd hours. This means I don’t have to teach Sunday school because my class is all girls. I like having weeks off sometimes! And with the boys in nursery now, I might actually be able to sit next to Juice in church and just sit. It’s going to be so different but so needed.

Speaking of being needed, my bed is calling me from the other room.

Lazy Sunday

Everyone,

I slept in today. We were very late for church. I gave the boys to Juice during the last hour and spent that time outside in the hall gabbing with friends (shhh….) although it was a spiritual gab.

At home I put the boys to bed and then slept for over 2 hours on the couch. Bliss!

We had a crock pot meal for dinner so I feel like I barely cooked anything.

And now we’ve spent the last hour and half or so playing the Wii. I’ve decided I need a new Wii game. And I have 50 dollars at Amazon thanks to a point website I’m a member of. So free game here I come!

I love days like this.

A Thursday in July

Everyone,

Today has been fun. We all desperately needed a down day, the boys especially. They went down for their morning naps without a fuss and then I went and took one too. Professor woke up about 4 times last night and I am beat. We all woke up about 2 hours later (too soon for me…I was still tired!) and had some lunch.

After lunch everyone had another nap (Butterfly included) and I got things ready to walk to the farmer’s market. Once Butterfly woke up (after having an accident on my bed…again!) and I cleaned her all up and got the boys up, we were able to go. Lala and Vinny came along. Flower pushed the boys in the stroller and Lala and I took turns pulling Butterfly and Vinny in her wagon. I bought apricots, nectarines, and green beans today. Half of the apricots didn’t make it home since Butterfly and Vinny and even the boys ate at least 4 each. It was really muggy with storm rolling in so we were sweaty and hot when we got home.

We ran the last half mile or so in big fat rain drops and made it inside just as the storm hit. Once Lala and Vinny went home, I tried to get our dinner started. We are trying to learn how to cook in our dutch ovens and I thought today would be a good day to do that. Well, it’s no fun to try and keep a fire going in a deluge, let alone cook in it!

Juice came home and tried to get it going again, only to create a big ball of flame and singe his eyebrows, hair, and take all the hair off of his right ear. I was watching and he looked up at me with a very surprised expression on his face, his hair smoking. Good thing it was raining and it put his hair out!

We gave up on cooking outside and cooked our dinner in our dutch oven in the regular oven. Dinner was about 2 hours late. Juice had gone by then to help one of my book clubbers move. Once dinner was done, it was very good!

The coals were still burning after dinner so we decided we should roast some marshmallows. Yummy! Butterfly had a great time and we saw the biggest slug I have ever seen. Juice came home and joined in the fun.

A great day!

Sleepy Day

Everyone,

The kids woke up at 5:30am this morning. Well, the boys did anyway. They were screaming and hungry and wanted their mommy. Juice got them out of bed for me and brought them to me so I could nurse them in our bed. I was too tired to get up. (Did I mention that we have addicted Flower to Rock Band? No? Oh. Did I also forget to mention that we were up till almost midnight last night playing Rock Band? Yeah.)

Well they thought it should be time to get up once their bellies were full. They poked me in the eyes. They shoved their fingers up my nose. They pulled all the books off of my bedside table to the ground. I finally picked them up and deposted them back into their cribs with some toys. Just as they were being put down and crying about it, Butterfly woke up screaming.

Seriously, she went from peacefully asleep to screaming her head off in about 2 seconds. I heard it ramp up even. She did NOT want it to be morning. Fine, I said. It’s not morning. Then she went on and on about how the sun wasn’t up and how that means it’s not morning. Yep, I agree. Go back to sleep.

I went back to my bed. She kept screaming that it wasn’t morning. The boys were screaming. I felt like screaming. Finally I stomped into the kids’ room (everyone is in the same room while Flower is here so Flower has a place to sleep.) and pulled everyone out of their beds and stomped them downstairs to play. They were happy. I was not. Ugh, I was so tired.

Juice and Flower got up around 8:30am or so. They seemed refreshed and happy and ready to start their day. I was cross and moody and ready to go back to bed. So I did. I slept until almost 1pm and was feeling much better.

Juice and I were supposed to go on a breakfast date this morning but didn’t because I was mad at him. (How dare he get to sleep in?!) And I was sleeping. So we went on a lunch date instead. We had lunch in the tiny cafe in town here and then went to buy him new work shoes. No luck in the store near the cafe. We did a little bit of geocaching but no luck with that one either.

Then we came home to a sleeping house. Butterfly is napping in our room so the boys can actually go to sleep during nap time. She locked the door and fell asleep. Good thing my husband is an engineer and can open the lock without the key.

We cleaned part of our room and had 2 big bags of garbage to take out. We are still not done but at least we have some stuff out of there.

Now Pirate is screaming so I better go check on him. And maybe go back to bed myself!

Weird…just weird.

Everyone,

It’s 4:33pm and my house is silent except for the clicking of my computer and some kid crying. That kid is not mine. It’s coming from the open living room window. My children are all in their beds. Sleeping. Since 1pm.

Yes they are still breathing.

Yes they really are just asleep and not playing some odd trick on me.

Yes they have been sleeping for over 4 hours. 4 hours!

I’m at a loss as to what to do with myself. I have done all the necessary things (tidy up, cleaned the downstairs bathroom, etc.) and I have done all the fun things too. I finished both my netflix movies (BBC mini series about 2 sisters in the 1920s trying to become dress makers, interesting but not 5 star material…although I think Minnie Driver was in one!) and have read all of my blogs for the day. Dinner is bubbling and Juice will be home in about half an hour. What to do…what to do…

One Awesome Sleep Day

Everyone,

Today has been oddly relaxing. The past few days I have actually been getting up with the boys when they wake up in the morning, between 6:30am and 6:45am. Not fun for me, but I think better. Why? Because I used to doze while the boys played until at least 7:30 or 8am. And then they were not napping for their first nap. But if I actually get up when they wake up, they are ready to nap by 8:45 am. So I’ve been doing this for the past few days and they have been napping well in the mornings.

This morning, they slept from 8:30-11am. We met my friend Lolli for lunch, ran a few errands, and then came back home around 2pm. I put everyone down right when we got home and everyone slept until 4:30pm. Almost 3 hours. It was bliss!

Pirate has a fever on and off all day. He hasn’t wanted to be put down and I ended up tying him on me for the entire time he was awake. After he woke up from his second nap, he seemed a little better and actually played. His fever was almost gone when he went to bed and I’m hoping that he’ll be fine in the morning.

Tonight is my book club so I expect to be tired tomorrow. I can’t wait. :)

Sunday and Sickness

Everyone,

Yep, you read the title right. We are sick here. AGAIN. I don’t know why we get sick so much. But it just seems we have days in between sicknesses here. This time I am sick along with Pirate. He has a fever (101) and cries because his mouth hurts. It could be teeth (I saw a molar the other day!) but a runny nose doesn’t really go along with that. Either way, I know my cold is not teething so I imagine this week will be full of runny noses and clingy babies.

Today during the last hour of church the boys fell asleep on me. It was so incredibly cute and fun to hold both of them and snuggle. It’s so much fun to have them jolt a little in their sleep, sigh and snuggle back down into me. Bliss. :)

Everyone also took a 3 hour nap this afternoon. (And I mean everyone, me included.) Everyone also went to bed early so that’s where I’m off to. Hope your Sunday was just as good!

One Nap?

Everyone,

The past three days the boys have had weird sleeping schedules. As in, they won’t go to sleep right as I put them down for their morning nap but if I get them up, they are all yawns and red rimmed eyes. Then they crash at 11am, sleep through lunch, up at 1pm which is when Butterfly has her quiet time.

This also means I don’t get any quiet time. And since Mommy does not get a nap every day (I tried making it a rule, Butterfly didn’t go for it. Dang.) I need quiet time.

This also means that the boys are bears by 4pm. I could technically feed them dinner then and put them to bed (in which they will sleep through the night until 7am) but then Juice never sees them. So I keep them up. We’ve had a bad case of the “witching hour” here lately.

Honestly if they are not going to sleep for their morning nap, I’d like to move them to an afternoon nap starting at 1pm like Butterfly. But I don’t think they are going to last that long. I could put Butterfly to bed early, like at around noon but then I have a VERY long afternoon with the kids who are cranky. Hmm…

Maybe this is just a phase. Maybe they will go back to doing two 2 hour naps a day. I’d like that. Maybe Pirate will stop stealing Professor’s binkie and throwing it on the floor. Yeah, that’d be a nice one too.
