10 Things I’m Thankful for TODAY

Everyone,

I’ve spent the past few days wishing for things that I don’t have.  Big things.  Like a backyard.  Or another room for my house.  Or new floors for the one I have.  Each dream I’ve had has been big and bold and daring.

Then I noticed I was starting to get unhappy.  Unhappy with the fact that I can’t just send my kids out to play.  Unhappy that my floors in my house are crap and covered in toys because there is just no where else to put anything.

So I thought that today, I needed to stop and find at least 10 things I was thankful for.

  1. My family.  Including my husband (a dream come true), my children (each one agonizingly prayed for over the course of many years), my parents, my siblings, and all of our extended family.  We are really blessed to have everyone loving us so much.
  2. My husband’s job.  Things are changing at his work but he’s been told he has job security.  So far, it’s been very secure.  And for that, I am truly grateful.
  3. The knowledge of reading.  I figure I spend at least 50% of my day reading.  I am SO thankful I can.
  4. Apples.  Apples are just so good and they are in season right now.  I had 5 today!
  5. Indoor plumbing.  Enough said.
  6. Pillows.  Who invented pillows?  Does anyone know?  They make life SO much more comfortable.
  7. Packages in the mail.  I got an AMAZING one from my friend who blogs at Basil Momma.  She has some awesome recipes, and some really good taste in jewelery.  I’m loving my new necklace!
  8. The holidays.  There is nothing I like better than the holidays.  I love how they smell, I love the food that you get to cook with them, I love how people treat each other during them, and I love all the traditions that we do with them.  The best part?  They are coming up!
  9. Fall weather.  It’s gotten pretty cool here for a few days and I LOVE having to wear pants and jackets.  I love that the leaves are just starting to turn, and that soon we will have crisp mornings and bright colors everywhere.  And then, after that, it snows!  I love snow.
  10. My blog.  How great is it that I get to write down all this information?  Just today I spent half an hour reading through my archives when the boys were tiny.  I had forgotten so much!  I am so grateful that I have these thought preserved not only for myself, but for my kids.  Also, I’m loving all the comments you guys make.  You are the cherry on top!  Thank you!

What are you thankful for?  Leave me a comment and let me know!

Starting Off June

Everyone,

I think I am a very list oriented person.  I like to see the steps all laid out, and I like to check them off.  Since there seems to be some things starting in June, let’s start off with a list for the month!

There, June.  In a nutshell.

Are you sure you want me to write every day?

[edited to add] I can’t believe I forgot one of the biggest things I’m doing this month!  Hello new healthy living and eating plan.  It’s tough, it’s involved, and I’m nervous about it.  You might hear about this one more than any of the others this month, and for the next 3 months!  (Which is how long, I’m told, this takes.  On average.)

Resolutions 2011

Everyone,

This year my resolutions (life bettering choices) are few.

  1. Do Better. Oh I do things.  I do a lot of things.  But I’d like to do somethings better.  Mainly, I’d like to feel better about myself.  Not sure how to do that yet, but that’s what a life bettering choice is all about.
  2. Move for 10 minutes a day. If I go walking, jogging, bike riding, running up and down my stairs, dancing with my kids, whatever.  I want to choose to move more.  Today’s movement?  A bike ride to the store and back.  Took me less than an hour and I rode a little over 3 miles.

Yep.  That’s it.  Short and sweet.  Maybe I’ll be able to keep those!  We’ll have to see.

Pro/Con Lists

Everyone,

Did you guys watch Gilmore Girls? My brother got me hooked on them and now we own all seasons. And I think they are so cute! Well…until she goes to college. Then it gets weird and forced and I typically don’t watch those seasons. ANYWAY, do you remember the episode where Rory gets accepted into 3 big schools and they are trying to decide where she should go? How do they decide that?

By making a pro/con list of course!

Luke says, “Hey — which school teaches how to make an important life decision without doing a stupid pro/con list? Whichever one it is, add it to the pro column.”

I have been making a huge pro/con list in my head all day today. And tonight, I finally wrote it down. Not as big as I thought it would be! BUT. We have a major family decision coming up so I was hoping to be prepared. For when the decision actually has to be made.

Wonder which side is winning? Con by one. This is going to be a tough decision!

PS- I realize that I have made you super curious about WHAT kind of decision we will be making. But I will include all of you, my faithful blog readers whom I adore, when I can. Then you can help me add to the pro/con list.

Saturday Afternoon Date

Everyone,

Why would anyone go on a date in the afternoon?  Don’t most people go on dates in the evening?  Isn’t that the best time to date?  Not necessarily.  Here are some benefits of dating in the afternoon.

1.  Cheaper meals.  Most places have the same thing for lunch and dinner, only their lunch menu is lighter in price.  And in serving size!

2.  Every thing is open.  Want to go to the movies?  Shopping?  Bowling?  All these things can often close earlier than you’d like (okay, not the movies) which limits your activities.  Plus, movies are often cheaper during the day!

3.  Sunlight.  Like hiking?  Horseback riding?  Canoeing?  All these things need daylight to do.  Well, I SUPPOSE you could do these things in the dark but it wouldn’t be very smart.

4.  Babysitter availability.  Often babysitters are very booked on Friday and Saturday nights.  Most teenagers have football games or parties themselves to go to.  By going out on a Saturday, you can have your pick of babysitters!

5.  Be out while the kids are up.  I don’t know about you guys, but babysitting at my house in the evening is a breeze.  I time it so the boys are down for bed, and Butterfly has only 20 minutes or so to be up.  So really, the babysitter is just there to sit.  But if we go out on Saturday afternoon, the babysitter has a chance to play with the kids, feed them lunch, help them clean up, etc.  And the best part about it?  I don’t have to do it.  AND I can come home and enjoy a quiet clean house after the kids go to bed.

So the next time you are planning on a date with your significant other, I strongly suggest an afternoon date.

PS-  Juice and I enjoyed one of these today.  Nice lunch, nice book reading in quiet time, and nice soaking up the sun time.  Very nice.
