All That Hard Work

Everyone,

I never talk about Juice’s job (ever, ever) but he shared a story with me today that I just had to share with you!  He gave me permission (after his final okay after writing) to post it.

A co-worker called him to help him solve a problem.  (Juice is an engineer, for those who are wondering/new here.)  So Juice gathers up all his equipment he needs to fix the problem and goes to the co-worker in the lab.  There are 3 other people standing around, waiting for him to show up and help out.

They show him the problem, and he confirms that the equipment is not working.  He then walks to the back of the equipment, pushes the cord all the way into the socket and fixes the problem.

All that hard work, years of schooling and thousands of dollars so he can plug equipment in right.

I bring Fire for your majesty

What a great job.  :)

PS- I find it hilarious that it took FOUR engineers to fix this problem.

Juice Does Take Pictures

Everyone,

Juice does take pictures!  Not very good ones!  (Sorry Darling…it’s true.)  Now you can see them! Aren’t you lucky?

2010 Nov San Diego soccerbeach

Anyone know where this is?

Ah, it’s a beach. Very good. Elementary my dear Watson. But where is that beach? I’ll give you a hint. This is not the Atlantic Ocean.

2010 Nov San Diego water

Any other guesses? Since the Pacific Ocean only covers a few states…you can guess where this is.

Oregon? Nope.

Washington? Nope.

California? Very good!

2010 Nov San Diego 009b

But it wasn’t a vacation he went on. It was a business trip.

2010 Nov San Diego hotel room temple

This is his view from his hotel room. Want to know what those white spires are?

2010 Nov San Diego Temple at Night

This! Isn’t it beautiful?!

I’m thinking he didn’t get much work done in San Diego.

PS- He really did work hard when he went there. But I guess the temple and the ocean were very close to his hotel and work.

I Married Superman

Everyone,

Part of Juice’s job is that he goes to the local high school and mentors high school students with their physics classes.  I guess they are building bridges and are very excited to have an engineer to help them out with what they are working on.  Plus, it looks awesome on his resume.

He’s got a big list of equations to solve for his homework.  He’s also pretty excited to help.  He just loves helping out people.  It’s a really great quality of his.  I should know, he helps me out a ton!

A new class had just come in when it was time for him to go back to his actual job.  One of the girls asks who he is and the teacher introduces him (and the other engineers that were with him).  Juice starts to leave with everyone (they had a meeting) and the girl pipes up, “Come back!  You look like Superman!”

This is the fourth time THIS WEEK that he has been told by strangers that he looks like Superman.  The ladies at the bank stopped him and told him that.  A lady at the grocery store.  Some of the girls at church.  Seriously, he gets it all the time.

He is a pretty super guy.  But I’m not sure I see the resemblance.

The Aftermath

Everyone,

Today’s weather: sunny and warm enough to start the icicles dripping. No flying snow in sight, unless you count all my neighbors digging out their cars and their sidewalks. We even did that a little bit today too. Although there was very little to shovel since we’d been doing it through the storm.

Juice worked from home today. I wish when he worked from home that he could play with us but sadly, that’s not the case. He did take the kids for a walk around the neighborhood while I was getting dinner ready. They came in about 2 minutes later saying there wasn’t much to see. More and more mounds of snow. Plus, I just threw whatever on them so they were not dressed to go trudging through the winter wonderland.

I cleaned my entire cupboard again today and found more weevils. Stupid annoying little pests. This time they were in my whole wheat flour. (Admittedly, the wheat and the flour are old but I was hoping to use them somehow!) Very sad about the flour because now I can’t make waffles in the morning like I had planned. And we are out of cereal. And hot chocolate. To add to the white flour, popcorn and sugar I was out of.

I did find about 10 lbs of beans and 7 cans of crushed pineapple so we’re good to go another week if need be. Hahaha!

They do say there’s going to be another storm on Monday though. Sigh…there go any plans I had for the weekend!

We’re On The News!

Everyone,

So today we were supposed to go hang out at a lake about an hour away from us. But we didn’t get up early enough to make it worth our while (Juice kept me up ALL NIGHT asking me if the power had gone off. Sometimes it’s funny when he talks in his sleep, sometimes it’s not. And for the record, he talks in his sleep about twice a month or so.)

Since we were home, we thought we’d go to the Labor Day parade. We got ourselves over there, sat down near the beginning of the parade (seriously, we were about 2 houses away from the starting line) and passed out flags to the children. The boys love to play them and we had a great time waving at all the parade goers. We cheered for everyone. The boy scouts, the bank employees, the dancers. Everyone.

Because we are so cute (and we are, especially the small people in our family) we had a lot of face time with the local news camera. He kept coming back to us and filming our family. And we ended up on the news tonight! Here are a few screen shots of the story. I won’t post the link on here because it gives away our “secret location” but email me if you want to see it.
I look a little annoyingly happy and Butterfly just looks annoyed but still, kind of fun for us.

The parade was okay. Getting there was a challenge. We went over to Chick-Fil-A for free food before the parade and took it with us to eat while we watched. We bought milk shakes (we got free food for the kids if we bought milk shakes) and Butterfly wanted to drink hers and ride on our stroller while walking to the parade. That’s fine, as long as she shares with her brothers who beg off of her all the time. Well, she shared a little too much and spilled milk shake all down Pirate. Poor boy was shivering he was so covered in it. Honestly I wasn’t too worried about him as much as I was worried about the stroller. That thing is hard to clean! But we got everything wiped up and enjoyed our time at the parade. Annoyingly so. :)

The article that went along with all of our pictures was all about unemployment. Note to readers: we are lucky. We are not unemployed. I do know (from this article) that the DC Metro area has about a 6% unemployment rate. Lately I’ve noticed the number of people begging at stoplights has doubled. A lot of these people hold signs that say, “Need money to pay the rent.” or “Out of work mom of 3 kids, please help.” I feel horrible that people resort to begging because they feel that this is the best way to get money.

We are so incredibly lucky to have Juice’s job. We are lucky that I am able to stay home with these cute flag waving kids and we still have enough to live on. I know God takes care of us and our needs because they are met every single month, even when I wonder sometimes how we do it. I hope that those people begging on the streets find something soon.
