Give Me Your Best Shot- Hospital

Everyone,

Today I have another picture from the hospital. Okay, I have 2 that are really good.Give me your best shot at Better in Bulk

This week’s challenge at Give Me your Best Shot is Straight Out of the Camera. These two pictures of Pirate at the hospital are a little dark, but they are straight out of the camera.

I wanted to put up a picture of his cute little gap in the back of his little gown but thought better of it. (Why is it cute on a 2 year old and horrible on adults?!)

He’s doing okay today. His left side is a maze of big purple bruises. He keeps sitting down suddenly and grabbing his left knee/leg and crying at random moments. Sadly, that has not stopped him from climbing. Just this morning I found him in the bathroom sink. As in, his whole body is in the sink and he is incredibly pleased with himself. Yesterday he climbed up on top of the computer desk in my living room and broke one of my figurines that was on a shelf above the desk.

I am so happy that spring is almost here and summer is not far behind. These kids need to get out of the house and climb on something legal!

They Lived!

Everyone,

So all of my children lived to see the sun set today. This morning, it was pretty dicey as to whether or not they were going to. I just can’t seem to catch a break with the kids lately. Good thing I called Juice on the brink and he decided that I should get out tomorrow morning before the storm hits and be alone. He thought it was a great idea. Right?!

So, the boys this morning come downstairs without me while I am arguing with Butterfly over something. Then I hear a crash. I rush downstairs to see what it was and they broke a glass that was on our table. They were also up on the table. So I clean that up (to a chorus of screaming, no injuries, just removed toy and table top exploration) and start to get breakfast ready. While I am putting oatmeal and milk in the microwave, I hear another crash. This time the broke a glass that was on the counter. No one was hurt but it put me right on edge the rest of the day. And it was only 7am!

After a lack luster breakfast for everyone (the oatmeal was good…no one ate it except me) I go upstairs to start getting everyone ready. While I am changing diapers and telling Butterfly she has to wear some kind of pants under her dress because it’s winter, the boys find Juice’s soccer ball and basket ball. They are super excited (“Ball! Ball!”) and I let them have fun chasing each other and throwing the balls 2 inches. While I am trying to explain cold weather and proper clothing to my daughter, I hear a big bounce, bounce, bounce, thud.

This time they threw the balls down the stairs and put a nice dent in the wall in the stair well. 8 am and already I’m ready to walk out the door and leave them behind. I don’t like being the one in charge right now!

And finally, while I was in the shower, they managed to pull Juice’s tie rack out of the closet wall and scatter ties around the room. They really like Juice’s Marvin the Martian tie and were fighting over it when I surveyed the scene. (This is where I called Juice and suggested STRONGLY that I needed to be away from the children for awhile tomorrow. Good thing his work is flexible. I’m off to breakfast early…anyone else need a break too?)

Professor screamed so hard during his nap today that he didn’t nap. And Pirate didn’t nap long enough because of all the racket. By the time Juice got home I was so spent that I could barely say hello. Needless to say, he cooked dinner, we watched movies and rejoiced when they were put in bed.

PS- We’re supposed to get 3 feet of snow this weekend, starting tomorrow. 3 feet is not a lot to all my Utah family, I know. But 3 feet out here is more than they’ve had since the 1950s. Hopefully the power stays on but it may not. Not to worry…we’ve got candles and warm clothes and a fire (outside) with which to cook food over if it gets that bad. Sadly though, no heater. We’ll probably all sleep in the same room and won’t that be fun. So if you don’t hear from me for awhile, I’m buried under snow!

Bad Boys!

Everyone,

This morning after breakfast I was cold. I normally do my exercising right after breakfast but I couldn’t seem to bring myself to take off my nice warm pjs and into my cold work out clothes. I curled up in my bed instead and read my book. The kids were playing so nicely downstairs. I felt so decadent sitting in my bed by myself with a book mid morning.

That feeling didn’t last.

It quickly disappeared when I hadn’t heard the boys in awhile. I wasn’t engrossed in the book that much to tune out the kids, but it was strangely quiet. I hopped right up and went to check on them and Butterfly. Butterfly was playing in the living room with the barn and the frogs (yes, frogs) and there were no little boys to be seen. I asked her where they were. “I dunno,” she answered never taking her eyes from her toys. So I start searching the house.

I looked all over my living room. In the little house area, nope. How about under a coffee table that’s shoved in the corner? Nope. In the kitchen? No. Dining room? Nope. Bathroom? No. Upstairs! I checked under beds, in closets, and finally all through my room. No where! Either they are really good at hiding or I am missing some place.

And then I hear it. Laughter. From outside. Suddenly I knew. They had gone out the dog door and were playing in the snow we got last night on our deck. In their pjs. With no shoes or coats on. Good thing they had footie pjs on or we would have had some cold baby toes.

Professor came right in when I opened the sliding door to let them in. Pirate sat hugging the fence and sucking his thumb. I can’t fit out the door to the deck because of the dog door so I had to send Butterfly out to get him. At least I had her put boots on before going out.

I am so thankful they went out the back door and not the front. And I’m grateful for a strong fence to keep them contained. They sure had a lot of fun but I think they gave me a few gray hairs today. This was the only playing outside we did with this latest snow. This weekend they are calling for 12-20 inches so hopefully we’ll be able to go play in that!

We’ll just plan on going out the front door and not the doggy door.

Double Trouble

Everyone,

So this morning started out like any other morning. The boys cried while I fixed their breakfasts and decided to eat in their high chairs this morning. They each had 3 bowls of cereal. It was great for me because yay they are eating! But not so fun in the high chairs. That means I can’t go upstairs and do something because they scream and cry and want to get down the minute I leave the room. This is why I love having a laptop because I just poked around online while they ate happily. Butterfly too.

Once they were finally eating and playing nicely, I went upstairs to do my exercising. Butterfly and Pirate have been fighting the past few days. I finally shut them in different rooms while I exercised.

Except some how the boys got out of their room and made their way downstairs. And found the cereal Butterfly left on the table. And dumped an entire bag of cereal on the floor. I finished working out and heard silence from the house. Uh-oh. I discovered the boys covered in cereal bits quite happily eating off the floor. Good thing I just steamed that floor clean!

I got out the little hand held vacuum and started to pick it all up. Then I moved to vacuuming up all the cobwebs in the corners and the grooves in the floor. I walked out of the kitchen with the intent of going to take a shower when I saw the heating vent cover in the middle of the living room floor. Huh. That’s not supposed to be there.

So I went to go put it away and discovered that they put blocks down the vent. Not just one or 2 blocks, at least 50. I’m not sure if I got them all or not. Also down there: crayons, little people, cars, a notebook!, and some of my kitchen spoons.

Seriously boys?!

They had sprinkled the vent generously with the aforementioned cereal. The heater was on so the cereal bits were blowing into my face as I’m digging out toys from the bowels of my house. I was up to my armpit in heater vent. Good thing I’m a member of the “green arm club” from college. Once you’ve stuck your arm up a horse or a cow, going down a dryer vent is no big deal.

I did vacuum up most of the crumbs from the dryer vent (and found 2 more blocks as they stuck to the vacuum tube) so hopefully we will not have pests from this lovely disaster.

Now an hour after I exercised, I am finally ready to shower. Only to have Professor trip while carrying milk and spill a full cup all over the carpet. Gah.

Seriously!

It’s been a very involved day already.

Christmas is Coming!

Everyone,

I’ve had a rash of bad luck with the boys lately. Monday, while I was taking my shower, they decided that all of my clothes in my drawers needed to be pulled out. Six big drawers were emptied of everything. When I opened my bathroom door to see what they were doing (after the shower, I am blissfully unaware in the shower) they were rolling in the clothes and laughing. It took me an hour to resort, fold and put away all those clothes.

Tuesday they decided that they were going to turn on all the electronics in my room. My tiny TV that I use to do my exercise videos on, my cd player, etc. They actually got a cd out of the player and have lost it. I’ve looked everywhere for it in all the normal places; drawers, boxes, bathtub. This prompted me to put the electronics on a power strip out of their sight so if I want to use those things, I just have to flip the switch. Plus, it might also save us a tiny bit on our electricity bill.

This morning they found Butterfly’s markers and drew all along the bottom of my bed. My bed is in a big wooden box so they just drew on the wood. I was able to wipe it all off (thank goodness for magic erasers) but still!

To make it even worse, I did try to lock them in our extra room while I was in the shower but they somehow managed to get that door open before I even got into the tub. And then they wouldn’t go near it after that. It’s like they remember or something.

All of this daily destruction has really got me thinking. Christmas is coming. Christmas = tree. Tree = disaster! My house is tiny. I can’t put it in the main room and block it off. There’s not enough room TO block it off. And with what would I block it off with?! The couches they climb over, the chairs they get on, they are even starting to scale the toy cube thing I have.

I have ornaments from when I was a baby. We add to our ornament collection every year. You can’t replace some of these! I would be heartbroken if my old ones broke. Juice and I and my Mom (who was on the phone at the time for our weekly call) had a good time brainstorming some ideas.

- different rooms to put the gated tree in…not very practical
- not putting up the tree at all this year…sad!
- putting up the tree but putting no ornaments on it…feasible.
- hanging the ornaments/lights from the ceiling
- making a cardboard tree
- putting the tree in another room
- renting a house and putting the tree there so we could visit it daily
- cutting down a tree limb and putting it in a bucket in our living room like poor sad Charlie Brown’s tree
- doing an outside tree this year and not hanging up our yearly ornaments…still kind of sad.
- having a table top tree to hang this year’s ornaments on and putting it up out of the boys’ reach, hmm…best one yet!

I think what we finally decided on was to get a tiny tree to hang this year’s ornaments on, and set up our big tree with lights and tinsel and nothing else. Also, I intend to tie it down somewhere. Bolt it to the wall or something. I love our tree. I can’t imagine not having it out since it’s older than I am. This will be it’s 30th year.

I think it might be nice NOT to have to retire the tree this year because of certain someones in our house.

The ornaments will not have changed since last year. They will be the same next year. They are just going to get a year off. I think I’ll either get a tiny wire tree or a potted tree for this year’s ornaments. I’ll probably have to put it on top of the refrigerator to keep it away from curious fingers. At least, hopefully, this will let me keep my sanity!
