Everyone,
Isn’t it true that bad (and good) things generally happen in threes? I’ll look for a bad day tomorrow because today totally sucked. Again. Let’s start with the oldest and go from there.
Butterfly: she had 3 accidents today. And one that was not just pee. What’s going on with this girl and her bladder?! The past 2 weeks or so she’s had major bathroom issues. It’s a bummer. We had to leave the park because she had an accident. That one was partly my fault because I saw the signs and didn’t march her to the bathroom then. I was waiting for her to tell me she had to go. Obviously she was having too much fun to stop. Boy she is going to be interesting in school. I hope she gets an understanding kindergarten teacher.
She also lost her movie for the day (a HUGE upset) and she got put to bed when the boys went to bed. It was not a good day for her.
Pirate: he is growing so fast! He is tall enough to reach things on the counters. Things I’ve been putting up there to keep him away from. Things like bowls or hot pans. No he didn’t get a hot pan but he did get a bowl. Butterfly was peeling hard boiled eggs to put in the bowl. He offered it to her. She huffed and turned away from him. (Girls!) Then he got angry and threw the bowl. The floor won. Now I am a bowl short and cross.
Professor: this is a pretty funny story and really, not something that was his fault. But still, it involves him so it goes under his label.
I was sitting with the boys on my lap, one on each leg. I was by the big window in our front room. Both the boys were facing the window looking out. Professor was in front, and Pirate was behind him, with his belly pressed up against Professor’s back. Professor was grunting and complaining that Pirate kept leaning on him and pushing him out of the way to get a better look at the truck out the window. I finally got them apart and noticed that there was a big green streak on Pirate’s arm. I was on the phone with my dad at the time and had to hang up quickly (“Ew! Green sludge!”). I then dump Professor on the floor and gingerly carry Pirate over to the changing pad to detoxify him.
I got his clothes off and open his diaper to…nothing. There was no poop anywhere on his body except his belly. That’s when I gasped and left poor Pirate buck nekkid on the pad. Professor was playing quietly on the other side of the room. When I got closer to him, I noticed that the back of his hair was kind of dark.
I gingerly pick up Professor and shoo Pirate off the changing pad to detoxify Professor. I should have been wearing some kind of hazmet suit because this was bad. Up the back, up the front, bright green and slimy. Oddly enough, there was a spot on his diaper that didn’t have anything on it. It was right where he was sitting on my leg so maybe it squeezed out either side?
Note to self: beans for dinner and a strawberry/spinach smoothie do not mix.

Everyone,
I spilled a lot of Pirate’s antibiotics yesterday. As in I have one more dose left and he should have 7. Oops. I’ll call the doctor tomorrow and see what I should do.
The antibiotics have been wrecking havoc on poor little Pirate’s tummy. He has had huge enormous blow out diapers at least 3 times a day. Today’s were right after he got up, on the way home from church, and right before dinner. I’m talking filling the diaper front to back and having it squirt out the sides and run down his legs kind of diapers. That one on the way home from church (at least it wasn’t IN church that would have been bad) also filled his car seat. There was actual soup left when I picked him up to take him inside.
Really really gross.
I spent all afternoon cleaning it up and worrying for the state of his poor little tummy. I’ve started them on some probiotics at the doctor’s recommendation (I didn’t get them until last night, should have gotten them as soon as we got the amoxicillin) and hopefully that will help. I’ve also noticed that Pirate’s appetite has gone way down. I’ve been pumping him full of juice and nursing him round the clock. Hopefully that will actually keep him hydrated.
Professor is not bothered by any gastrointestinal issues at all. Sunshine boy. That kid seriously sparkles when he smiles.
We are one week away from Butterfly’s 4th birthday!! Can you believe that she will be 4 soon? I can’t.

Everyone,
It’s late posting this and I meant to get it out earlier but with Pirate and Professor having huge blow out diapers every two hours (thank you antibiotics), Butterfly plugging up the toilet on the second floor with paper until it was actually raining in the bathroom on the first floor (yeah.) and life in general, it didn’t happen. Until now.
Remember my post a few months back about my little niece Seraph? Remember her heart condition and how the doctors sent her home with no other options? Remember that they didn’t expect her to live much longer?
Right now she is thriving. She is really surprising her doctors and everyone with her growth. She is gaining weight, starting to roll over (and rolling onto her scar so it can’t hurt that much!), and her skin is soft and smooth. She went from not really wanting to be touched to playing with everyone, especially her twin sister Angel.
I keep coming back to a Christmas story. I know, it’s May (I just typed April and had to correct myself…where is the time going?!) but this story just keeps popping in my head. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. Not to say that my niece is a Grinch at all! Just these few little lines have been running through my head:
And what happened then…? Well…in Who-ville they say That the Grinch’s small heart Grew three sizes that day!
And the minute his heart didn’t feel quite so tight, He whizzed with his load through the bright morning light And he brought back the toys! And the food for the feast!
I just can’t help thinking that Seraph’s heart has grown 3 sizes since she’s been home. She’s been basking in the love of her family (it is immense and tangible from thousands of miles away) and she is thriving.
We need your help. This week (May 8th) Seraph has some tests to determine what to do next. My sister in law Splats explains it all very well so go on over there to see what is going to happen.
She is asking us for prayer and fasting on behalf of Seraph tomorrow to prepare for her testing. (Fasting is typically giving up 2 meals for the day.) We need her doctors to know what to do for her that is best.
Please, if you can, join us for this little girl. I for one want to see what she brings when her heart is not so tight.

Everyone,
Juice is in St. Louis until Saturday. I decided to go out of my comfort zone and ask a few friends over for movies and snacks. Just the girls. No kids allowed. Boy did I get a response! We may make this a monthly thing, because I had moms almost crying with thanks (not really but it makes a nice picture). I have even cleaned my house for this. You’d think I was as excited as they are!
Juice left at 4am this morning. I did not want to take him to the airport (gah, 4am! And what would we do with sweetly slumbering Butterfly?) so he took the car to the metro and left it there for me to pick up. Which Butterfly and I did early this morning. Did you know that you don’t have to pay for parking at the metro station until 10:30am? No? Me either. But boy was I excited when I found out! Free parking!
Does anyone know how to make your toddler’s diaper stop leaking at night? Because Butterfly’s does. And changing the bed is awful…all jammed in that corner. I have put her in the next size up diaper at night and that seems to do nothing. I have considered buying the training pants overnights. I do wonder if I will actually use them and if they would work. I have gone ahead and bought something called ‘diaper doublers‘. Apparently the cloth diapering world swears by them and they are reusable. I bought 2 and will buy more if this solves my problem. Anything to stop changing that bed and washing the sheets every day!
So I’ve been doing a little research on cloth diapering and I think I may give it a go with the next baby. Not 100% cloth, but maybe 30%. I even saw that they have flushable diaper liners so you can just wrap it up and flush before washing the diaper. I think I may have my convincing story with Juice right there. I’m interested to see how they all work and if they are worth a little more hassle for less price. I figured I pay around $1000 to $1500 a year on diapers…that would be nice to keep some of that money! And sorry if this paragraph doesn’t sound coherent…I’m just thinking out loud.
