Winter Solstice 2010

Everyone,
Why would Juice and I spend an hour standing outside in the middle of the night on the Winter Solstice? Because of this:
Totally totally worth it.

Everyone,
On Friday, we went to the store after we dropped Butterfly off at school. By the time we left the store, it had started snowing! And since I had my brand new camera in my purse (where my old one used to live), I snapped a shot of the boys in the parking lot and the snow. I seriously didn’t think the snow would last till we got home.
But it was still snowing when we got there. And it was still snowing as I unloaded the car. The boys and I stayed outside for another 20 minutes or so playing in the snow. Pirate ran around with his tongue hanging out yelling, “I wick it-tt! I wick it-tt!”
Professor had his beloved train (toy of the week here) and ended up making train tracks on our steps.
We only got a light dusting, but it was enough for us to be excited about the snow. I hope we get at least one decent storm this year and can go sledding!
Last winter was good. I could do last year again.

PS- Thoughts on the camera…I like it but it needs getting used to. I don’t like how it seems to focus on things behind the kids, and not on the kids directly. Still, it’s waterproof and that was nice during our little shoot today.

Everyone,
It has been annoyingly cold the past few days. Horribly so. The high today (I believe) was about 30 degrees. It felt like 20. It’s been very windy on top of the cold. And the wind just bites through clothes. The boys have been shivering in their coats on the way to and from school. They are at least excited to get into the car now. Before it was a pain. But now they realize that there is warmth in the car and they go willingly! The novelty of it all.

Our house is becoming littered with packages. Ahh the joys of ordering Christmas online. I love to get the packages! But it’s kind of no fun when you know what’s in them. I guess I miss the suspense of Christmas, and not knowing what things are. I did get one package last week that I was very excited about! I finally saved up enough Swagbucks to buy a new waterproof camera!
If you don’t use Swagbucks, why not?! It’s the easiest way I’ve found to earn a few extra bucks online by doing things I normally do. Like searching the web. Not only did I get this camera (basically for free) I’ve also paid for part of Christmas with it. Go, click, win!
The UPS guy stopped by here at 10pm tonight to deliver a package he forgot on his truck. Now THAT is dedication.

On to my new camera! It’s a Lumix DMC-TS2 and it’s beautiful. It’s waterproof, shockproof, and 14 mega-pixels. I’ve been taking just a few pictures with it and I’m happy so far! I took a bunch of video which my computer doesn’t recognize. Rats! I guess I’m going to have to actually read the huge manual they sent to see if I can’t get the computer and the camera to talk to each other. But that’s something to do when it’s earlier in the day.
I’m excited to try this camera out more, especially in the summer. We got some great shots at the beach last year from the old camera. Let’s see if this one will be better.

Everyone,
Juice had to dig the van out this morning. I had somewhere I had to be and I kind of needed a car for it. So. Off he went with his shovel and his helper (Butterfly). 2 hours later, he finally came in. He came in with some sad news though.
He broke the snow shovel.
We haven’t even dug out his car yet! And I’m sure we’ll have to dig out at least 3 more parking spaces before people will stop taking the ones we’ve made all nice and clean. So I went on a quest today to find a shovel. Target had NO shovels. They also had NO parking since they couldn’t plow the top of their parking garage and no one could get up there. Let’s just say that that was a mistake and a half to go there!
I went to the hardware store and found a shovel. But it was in the back being loaded off the truck. Apparently, they just shipped them today from somewhere in the mid-west for our specific use. Awesome. We will use it. I did make the guys open the pallet and pull out one single shovel for me because I was so ready to be home after that Target trip. Ugh.
In other news, I lost my little water proof camera. It’s what I always love to take out for snow pictures because I could care less if it gets snowed on. Or dropped in the snow. Or slush, or whatever. So Saturday right before we went out in the snow, Juice and I were frantic trying to find it. We found it behind the computer monitor and I was very happy. It even had batteries which is saying something!
Also found along the way: crayons, play food, pens, outlet covers, books, cars, crumbs, and the tv remote and the small dvd remote. Huh, looks like they weren’t thrown in the trash after all! They were just hiding under the couch. Yay!

Everyone,
Remember how I said that the x-ray techs kicked me out of the x-ray room because of a risk of pregnancy? Remember how I scoffed?
Yeah, that’s still totally true.
Our good friend and old neighbor has a new puppy! She is so sweet. She is black with a tiny bit of white on her mouth that makes her look like milk is dribbling down her chin. She is a cocker spaniel and completely adorable.
She is staying with me during the day for the next little while. So she’s going to be joining the family in the day. Her name is Willow. So cute! I love the puppy breath, the soft fur, the soft feet, the growling bark, the yipping in fear, the need to be next to another living thing…ah…I love puppies. And babies. And I’ve got both! Times 2! My blog is going to be so sticky sweet for the next little while that you will all get cavities. Sorry. I do happen to know a good dentist who happens to be my brother in law.
She already knows how to get out of the house through the dog door (she can’t get out yet, she can’t open the flap but she knows where to get out). She slept at my feet for a good hour and a half while I scrap booked with Lolli. She is seriously unnerving Soot though. Our puppy, while a very good puppy, is not all that social with other dogs. I hope having another puppy around will help Soot as well as Willow.
Also, I got a new member of my camera family. A flash! I was having fun with it yesterday, but today I can’t seem to get it working. Stupid batteries. (At least that’s what the manual says it is. I’m off to buy more batteries as we speak.)
