QOTW: Football

Everyone,

This week at the Multiples and More site the question was on football.

College football to be exact.

Now, for those who REALLY know me, know that I don’t care for football.

Oh I don’t mind it.  If someone is watching, I can watch too.  I went to all the high school football games (to flirt with the boys and not watch the game) and I did record college football games on tape at one time.  Why?  A boy I liked played in the marching band and I wanted to see if I could see him on tv.

Really.

Dad, stop laughing.

Ahem.

The question this week!  College football!

What team do you root for and why?

I root for BYU.  Rise and shout, the cougars are out!

Both Juice and I went there so it’s only natural that we would take an interest in their football season.  And their toffee peanuts.  And their mint brownies.

I think they won yesterday, by the way.  The football team, not the food.  The food there is a winner every day.

I’m just happy that the football team won too.

First Day of First Grade

Everyone,

Today was the first day of school for Miss Butterfly.

Butterfly first day 1st grade

We were all very (very) happy to hear that her school had power, after the weekend brush of Hurricane Irene, and would actually be open to receive students this morning.

This year Butterfly will ride the big “blue” bus that is yellow.  She hopped right on this morning.

And after a few hours, she hopped right off.

One excited 1st grader after her first day!

Her teacher this year, Mrs. Dez, is going to be a lot of fun.

Butterfly and Mrs. Dez

She is thrilled this year to have a DESK all her OWN.  She is also excited to put her school supplies in her DESK.

It’s just too thrilling.

This morning, before the bus, I asked her a few questions:

“Are you excited?”

“Yep.”

“What are you excited about?”

“Playing with my friends on the playground.  And lunch.”

“Who are you looking forward to playing with?”

“You know!  My friends!”

“Are you nervous about anything?”

“Nope.”

“Alright.  Have fun!”

“You know I will!”

Tonight we went out to ice cream to celebrate the first day of school.  She had cookie dough ice cream with a cherry on top.  She said it’s been a cherry on top kind of day, wonderful and special.

We measured her (52 and 3/4 inches tall) and ended with a father’s blessing for the school year (protection and friends).

I think it’s going to be a great year!

Eaten Alive

Everyone,

Butterfly complained this morning that she had a few bug bites that itched.  I noticed that she had more than a few!  At least 10, maybe more.  I put some anti-itch cream on them and a little bug spray on her and sent her off to school.

When I picked her up today, she was COVERED.  Every inch that was not covered in cloth (and some that was!) had a bug bite on it.  Did I spray some bug love juice on her this morning?!

Seriously, it was bad.  So bad that when I pointed out all the bites to her and she paused to look, she had an audience of all the kids that were walking home.  They were ALL amazed.

Way to get popular honey!

Here’s the run down:

Left arm- 5

Right arm- 5

Right leg- 18

Left leg- 28 (!!!)

Back- 3

Grand total: 59

She’s a feast!

What Butterfly Likes

Everyone,

Right now, if you’re looking for Butterfly, you can find her drawing.  Somewhere nearby.  She loves to color, draw, decorate, and create.  She also loves to make things for people and I find scraps of paper all decorated for her friends at school, her grandparents, even the dog.

She loves to be read to.  And look at pictures.  Right now she is going through a planet phase and has brought home books about the planets for weeks.  We’re learning lots, and she’s asking lots of questions about astronomy stuff.  Like why can’t people live on Mars and why Venus is so hot.  Also, is Pluto really a planet?  I ask myself that one a lot too.

I’ve taken her out a few times to look at the stars (the few that you can see from our house) and we have a star globe that puts the constellations on the ceiling to look at.  She is SO looking forward to learning about the other planets and so am I actually!  She has them all memorized.

She is taking swimming lessons on Saturday morning and she is loving it.  We also go bike riding (when the weather permits) to swimming lessons.  She told me the other day that she didn’t know what she liked better, the riding or the swimming!  She’s also is a bit horse crazy and adds them to a lot of her pictures.  I’m excited to get her on a horse (this weekend hopefully!) and feed the fire.  If only we could have one…

What a unique and diverse little girl we have!

The Tooth Fairy Comes Again

Everyone,

Butterfly ran out of school today saying she lost her tooth!  It was barely loose!  But here she was, clutching a baggie with her tooth in it and jumping up and down.

Butterfly look at my tooth

I’ve been trying to teach her how to whistle and she was all upset that she couldn’t practice whistling (it involves pushing her tongue on her front teeth) anymore.  Wait, is that what she was doing in school when her tooth came out?

Butterfly missing second tooth

You betcha.

Love my girl.

Little Miss Long Story Teller

Everyone,

Butterfly is growing up so fast.  Her legs have gotten lanky.  Her baby fat is melting away.  We all got bikes so we can ride with her and she has been begging to go for bike rides all the time.

She loves to play by herself.  She loves to play with Professor, sometimes.  And sometimes, she likes to be with Pirate.  Mostly she is just whining that they destroy her sets or what she wants to do.

She is in love with learning.  She is so close to having the door open with reading.  She helped her friend Vinny with his homework last week when he was here.  And boy did she get in trouble for giving him the answers.  She loves to color, draw, and ask me how to spell words.  Over and over again.  She also spells out words for me to read to her.  It keeps us both busy and is a big exercise for my brain!  Her’s too, I imagine.

I can’t believe how big my baby girl is!

Butterfly’s Second Day

Everyone,

So early this morning found me and Butterfly all ready for school and out the door by 8am.  Our first stop was the doctor’s office.  The doctor looked in her ears, tsked, and broke out her prescription pad.  Both ears are infected, with puss oozing out of one.  Lovely.   She also had a temperature of about 100 degrees.

This combination makes it so she has to stay home from school today.  Second day!  Poor girl.

It also made for a very trying day for me.  I had to haul her all over today while I ran my errands.  I got her prescription filled and gave it to her right away.  And then about an hour later, after some lunch, she started jumping on the bed.  And fighting with her brothers.  And pushing my buttons.

She can go back to school tomorrow, right?!  This day back home has just reinforced the face that I know that she is so ready to be at school.  Or I am so ready for her to be in school.  Either way, school is a good thing!

First Day of Kindergarten

Everyone,

In Butterfly’s own words:

“First, we had to wait a long time for everyone to be there.  It was really boring.  But then we went up to my classroom, you know the one we went to?  And we have Choice time!  I played with play dough.  I don’t get to play with play dough very often, do I?  I should play with that during every Choice time.

And lunch was cool.  I didn’t get to finish everything because everyone was being too loud and annoying me.  Recess was fun.  I played a lot on the slide.

Oh!  I got to go see the nurse again too.  She’s really nice, but she made me drink some yucky water and swish it around in my mouth and make the ‘rhrhr’ sound in my throat.  I went because I was coughing so much.

My backpack was too big for my cubby.  You shouldn’t put so much stuff in it.  And I didn’t know you gave me tissues!  I could have used them today but I don’t know how to open the box.

It was a fun day.  I want to go back tomorrow.”

She came running out of school all smiles and happy to see me.  I’m not quiet sure what happened to her back pack though…everything was gone from it except the tissues and the baby wipes.  Don’t you think that if they didn’t need these things, they wouldn’t ask for them?  I can’t figure out why they came back.

Also, if they send Butterfly to the nurse, I’d like to know about it!  I thought maybe there would be a note in her backpack but there wasn’t.  Do I ask the teacher for more information?

Speaking of the nurse, Butterfly started complaining that her ear hurt about an hour after school.  By the end of dinner, she was in tears it hurt so bad.  Uh-oh.  It sounds like she has another infection.  Or maybe she was just exhausted from the day?  We’ll find out tomorrow morning.  If it still hurts her, I’m taking her to the doctor’s.

And the best way to end such a big day?  A big dish of strawberry ice cream…with a specially requested cherry.

Wayback Wednesday: Butterfly

Everyone,

Happily joining Cheryl from Twinfatuation for Wayback Wednesday.

Butterfly, age 3 months

Hard to believe this little girl is going to be going to school on Monday!  A good friend blessed her baby in church on Sunday and I was just taken back to Butterfly and her beautiful blessing outfit (shown here).  How new I was at being a mother.  And how happy we were to finally have a baby to love and dote on.

And we still love and dote on our “Baby Girl”.  Although when she tickles my feet while I am sleeping because I am “taking up too much of the couch” I find it hard to dote on her.  Still, a sweet, sweet girl.

Way Back Wednesday

Everyone,

Joining my new IRL friend Cheryl for her meme this week, Way Back Wednesday.  I’ve been a long time reader of Cheryl’s blog and I was lucky enough to spend some time with her in New York this past weekend.  We even shared a cab and got kicked out of the quiet car on the train together.  Oh the bonding!

Butterfly, age 2.5, Christmas Time!

Butterfly Christmas 2 2007

I can’t believe this little tiny girl will be going to school in a few short weeks.  She has a purple back pack.  She has a purple lunch box.  She even has purple horse sandwich wraps!  (Purple is the new blue.  Also, horses are the only animal alive…well, next to dogs.  Can you blame the girl?)  She has her first day of school outfit all picked out.  The school sent over her first lunch schedule, as well as her bus schedule and general housekeeping rules.  We go next week to meet her teacher and tour her classroom.  Hard to believe that the little spunky girl pictured above is big enough for school.
