Everyone,
This is why I hate baby food.
But also why I love my new flash. No touch ups to these photos today! Straight out of the camera.

Everyone,
They boys are seeming to eat solid food with a little more gusto than they have been in the past. Pirate is a really good eater. He opens his mouth, eats whatever I give him, and is generally happy. The only thing he doesn’t do is pick up his cheerios or whatever finger food I have for him on his tray. He tries for a few times, misses his mouth every time, and then just stops trying all together.
Professor is on the other end of the spectrum. He loves his finger food. He generally grabs whole handfuls of the stuff and shoves it in his mouth as fast as he can get it. He eats every single Cheerio on his tray every single time. But he has decided spoon feeding is for babies. He will only agree to it if it’s something he really likes. Otherwise he swats the spoon, flinging food everywhere. I really can’t stand that. I think I end up saying no to him more often than I would like during meals. This could be why he has learned to shake his head ‘no’ and does it with gusto in his high chair.
Foods they have been eating lately:
Sweet potatoes, baked and then cut up
Avocados
Small pieces of meat
Apples
Pears
Cheerios
Gerber Puffs
Bananas
Pumpkin
Bread
Cheese
Yogurt
White Potatoes
Peas
Carrots
Beans
Noodles
Mac and Cheese
Waffles
Pancakes
Their favorites are sweet potatoes and avocados and beans. I know every time I give them these, they will eat really really well. They tolerate things like pumpkin and white potatoes. But I have a bunch of frozen baby food so they’ll eventually have to go through it. I have found that putting chunks into the purees I have will get them to eat more, as they are ready to chew their food and not just gum it down.
They are eating 3 meals a day. Mostly for breakfast I give them bananas covered in oatmeal or whatever they had the night before and didn’t finish. Lunch is often bread with mac and cheese and peas and carrots. I know, they probably shouldn’t have mac and cheese yet but it’s so easy and they love it. I try to make lunch all finger foods so Pirate can get some practice and then I can also eat.
Dinner is whatever is closest in the freezer. I almost always put either barley or oatmeal in it, along with frozen veggie chunks or canned fruit pieces. They sometimes have what we are having too. Pirate is especially good at begging off my plate and loves to eat off of my fork.
They are still nursing 7-8 times a day. We’ve also been giving them sips of water from a sippy cup and they love that. I don’t remember this with Butterfly, but I feel like I am feeding them all day long. If I’m not nursing them, I’m getting them in and out of their high chair and cleaning them up. Or I am making them (and Butterfly) something to eat. It’s exhausting!

Everyone,
It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about baby food and the boys. I think I used to talk about it all the time when Butterfly was little. I haven’t said much about what the boys eat because, well, they just don’t eat. They are all gun hoe about the food for about the first two bites, and then they don’t want anything to do with what I’m feeding them.
I make my own baby food and I think it tastes pretty good. They won’t eat anything but the fruit I make. Store bought food is the same. They love Cheerios and bread and crackers. You can’t live off of that stuff alone. It’s driving me crazy.
Tonight I gave them a bunch of tiny ham pieces, baked potato pieces, and some steamed cabbage. I don’t know how much Professor got into him (because I put him in his high chair and let him have at it) but Pirate ate all of what Juice gave him. He packed it in.
Maybe are they ready to feed themselves? Maybe they are tired of squash and peas and apples? I just don’t know. Meal time is very stressful for me. I make Juice do it if he is at home. Since Pirate won’t fit into his high chair with the cast, meal time is a two person job.
Juice and I have talked about different ways to get the kids to actually eat more. Maybe they are ready for some sort of spice in their meals. Maybe I need to make up some recipes like the ones at wholesomebabyfood.com.
Either way, I guess baby food is going to change at our house. Any suggestions?

PS- #26 on my list about myself (which actually turned out to be #25 because I forgot #22!) is true. Just in case you want to know.

Everyone,
I declared today a stay at home day and I don’t think I stepped foot outside the house. Butterfly did to wave hello to me out our front window when Juice came home. “I want to do what he did!” Other than that, we were inside. I did entertain the idea of going to the bank after the kids woke up from their afternoon nap and I even put clothes on Butterfly so we could do that. But she cried so hard about leaving. She asked me why we had to go and I said to get some things done. She then looked at me with her big brown eyes and tear streaked face and said, “Can’t we get things done here?”
You bet! There’s always something to do at home. Instead of running errands, we stayed home. I did a load of laundry, which made it into the dryer within an hour of being washed and was actually put away. You hear me right, there was no lingering longer in the basket.
I cleaned the front room in anticipation of friends coming over to play tomorrow. I even cleaned the black hole of our couch. It’s where we dump everything when we come in and somehow, it never makes it out again. Well tonight it made it out.
I made baby food again today. I had three yellow squash on my counter for awhile and I wasn’t sure what kind of squash they were. Well, I opened up the first one to find a mess of brown mushy goo. Ugh, that one had gone bad. The second one reveled they were spaghetti squash and I baked both of them for an hour. An hour to cool, one and a quarter into the blender with some water and I had 48 oz of baby food. Plus probably another 30 oz with the stuff I ran out of ice cube trays for that I will freeze tomorrow. I love making baby food.
I’m hoping to clean off my kitchen table and maybe clean my downstairs bathroom before bed tonight. I also talked to my BFF Mink for about 2 hours today. It’s our bi-weekly phone call. She is about 4 weeks away from having baby girl #2 and I’m thrilled for her. Wish I was there though.
So yes, there is a lot to be done at home. Great idea Butterfly!
