Everyone,
This morning I had to pick up the boys life jackets for the beach from the store they got shipped to. Well the strip mall the store is next to just happened to be having a big “block party” for all the moms and their kids. It’s called Mommy and Me. We’ve been once before and it was pretty fun. This time, Flower was with us so we left the stroller in the car and immediately started sweating.
All sorts of businesses have little tables out promoting their wares with kid friendly activities or balloons. They have a few clowns that come and make balloon animals. Butterfly got a blue flower and the boys got blue cars. Butterfly had her nails done (purple with sparkles), we did some sand paintings, had popsicles, bananas, got helium balloons, and had peanut butter and apples. All for free.
Local people, you should go to this. It’s fun!
But it was also REALLY hot again. We bought smoothies and left sooner than we thought we were going to. We then had to go back to the car, pick up the stroller and walk across the street to pick up my package. We should have just brought the stroller in the first place.
Still, it was pretty fun and the kids seemed to enjoy it. I had to take the balloons away from them half way home though because they were fighting over them too much.
And the boys slept for 4 and a half hours this afternoon. It was awesome!

Everyone,
Joining my friend Lolli online (and not in person, we haven’t hung out for a month! Crazy for us!) for her best shot of the week.

Today we went to the local pick your own produce place and picked blueberries. Oh so many blueberries.
12 and a half pounds of blueberries.
I think we’ve already eaten 3 pounds of them at home. They are wonderful this year. Large and juicy and so easy to pick. The bushes were just heavy with them today. And since it was the coolest day of the week, everyone and their dog was out picking. (Literally, several people had dogs with them in purses and such.)

The kids had a great time picking. Butterfly’s BFF Vinny and Lala came along to keep us company. They picked about 4 lbs of blueberries and then helped us pick ours.
Butterfly mostly played with Vinny but they were very cute together trying to out pick each other. I think they were just happy to be out of the house and together. Outside. Where they could (and were) as loud as possible.
We were there for only about an hour because it was so hot. That and the boys were unhappy I wasn’t letting them eat the berries off the bushes. I told them they could eat the berries off the ground but not off the bushes.
Pirate went right to work picking the blueberries. He almost filled the bottom of his bucket. He then promptly turned the bucket over and dumped the blueberries on the ground. And then ate them.

Professor, on the other hand, just buried himself into the bush and ate as many berries as he could get his little hands on. His mouth and his fingers were purple. He had the cutest little imp smile on his face that I could barely tell him to stop eating them.

So sorry local pick your own produce place. I think my boys must have eaten at least a pound of berries in the hour we were there. But thanks for the awesome berries! They taste great.

Everyone,
We love the rain here. We love the sound it makes, the smell it makes, and the free ice cream scoops it makes. Wait, does it rain ice cream here in Maryland? Well if you go to Bruster’s while it’s raining it does!
Did you know that Bruster’s (aside from having amazing ice cream) that you get a free second scoop when it rains or snows? I bet you get a free second scoop if it’s hailing or sleeting as well, I’m sure. We LOVE Bruster’s not only for their free second scoops, but for their free baby cones for the kiddies under 32 inches, their free doggy sundaes for our puppy who LOVES ice cream, and for the free cone after you buy 9.
Tonight we didn’t tell the kids where we were going when we got in the car. As we pulled into the parking lot, all three of them because to scream, “Ice cream!” It was super cute. After several minutes in the rain deciding what to get, we took our wet selves back to the car and the kids proceeded to slime the car with goodness. Yum yum!

Everyone,
Today Juice and I tried to run some errands (got them all ran, but didn’t get anything but diapers. Boring!). One place we did try to go was to the new grocery store in town. It replaced our regular store when it closed down. I had heard a few things from some friends about it (like they have rabbit in the meat section) so I had to see it for myself.
Apparently it is a Korean grocery store because absolutely everything was in Korean. I had no idea what most of the things were. There was produce I had never even seen. Really long mushrooms, gray fruit (although it could have been a vegetable for all I know), and other stuff. They even had a bunch of live fish in tanks. We were looking at them when a hand plunged into the tank, grabbed a fish, and then promptly cut off it’s head right in front of us. Wow. (They also had crabs, lobsters, eels and abalone in the tanks.) My favorite thing was the small silver chopsticks with a small silver spoon for babies. I really really wanted to buy these for my kids but I suppose I would have to learn to use chopsticks to use them!
The other half of the store was all Hispanic things. Most of this stuff I was familiar with. Wow you can buy 10 lbs of beans there for about 6 dollars. Food storage here I come! And the spices…Juice was drooling over the spices.
This was an interesting experience. The store was JAMMED PACKED. We used to go to this location every week for about 4 years and I have never seen more cars in the parking lot. This is one of the reasons why I love living here. You never would have this kind of experience within walking distance of our home in Utah!

Safirearound our town, grocery shopping
Jan 14
Everyone,
About 2 weeks ago we discovered that our regular grocery store is closing forever. I am sad because people that worked there knew us by name. They said hello to Butterfly and we had been going there since she was itty bitty. We had been talking about trying out different grocery stores in the area anyway, and this just forced us to do that.
Do you know how annoying it is to go shopping at a brand new store? I had my list of things I need, and I had to wander up and down each isle looking closely for each of my items. Of course, we also went to the cheapest place in town, and we had to dodge everyone and boxes and pay attention. Most of the time I just go down the isles that I know have my stuff. It took us twice as long. How annoying.
Also annoying: the store does not have some of our staples, like natural peanut butter and diapers. So now I have to try yet another store in the area. Which means in 2 weeks when I go again, I have to pay attention yet again! Not happy.

PS- Very tired today…don’t know if this makes any sense or not.
