Writing Prompt: Music

Because I’m pretty sure you don’t want to hear about how I babysat more (and different) kids today (and changed 5! poopy diapers), here is another writing prompt.

What was your favorite song this year? Five years ago? Ten years ago? Twenty?

Let’s start in the past and go from there.

20 years ago I was 10 years old.  And all I wanted to listen to was the oldies station.  I knew all the words to all the songs.  But my favorite was Rockin Robin.  I know all the words still.  It was the one song that I used to call the station to request the song.  Sadly, there isn’t a really reliable oldies station in DC (or is there?) and I miss all those songs that I know all the words to.

10 years ago I was 20 years old.  I had just gotten married and my favorite songs were all about L-O-V-E.  And that year, I loved Praying for Daylight by Rascal Flatts.  See, in 10 years, I went from oldies, to high school 90’s music, to rock, to country.  Big changes, I know.  But I love country music because it tells a story.  And it reminds me of the oldies music, because they also told good stories.

5 years ago, I had just had Butterfly and I was deep into kiddie songs and lullabies.  But mostly this song: In My Daughter’s Eyes by Martina McBride.  Especially the last part of the song, about how happy she made me.  And she has made me SO happy.  I still cry over this song.

And my favorite song this year?  I think it’s a tie between this one and this one.  Which one do you like better?

I like the firefly song so much better. I love the video. It was like watching a…oh what are those stupid books called where you search for different things in them, you know what I mean…anyway finding the different toys was cool. The see and say, the speak and spell, love the disco ball, and all of the wind up toys. Although he totally cheated on the see and say and used a modern version because the old ones had pull strings not the plastic arms that little kids cannot pull down. I never picked you as a U2 fan unless it was for Guitar Hero or Rock Band!

Choose your own adventure books? I think that is what they are called. And yes, I do love U2, ZZ Top, Led Zeplin, etc. Got that one from my dad.
